Overseers

When you walk down the streets and there is a robbery taking place, who handles with it? Who overwatches prisoners for crimes that they have committed? Who enforces the law? The answer is The United Federation of New Cytal. The single largest law enforcement force in the entirety of Violem. Spreading across multiple cities acting as the city guards, all following the orders of The Commanders. Their place in the world is to protect the public, keep the peace and ensure a civil war never happens again.

Origins:

The beginning of the Federation came about following the end of the Cytal Civil War, where nations across the continent were tricked into fighting the by Cult of Chaos in order to release a terrible evil into the world. With the help of The 12 Commanders, the cult was defeated and a new age of peace was brought to Cytal. But there were many soldiers and warriors left behind with no war to fight. After deliberations between the Commanders and various city leaders, a new organisation was created, The United Federation of New Cytal. Their aim was to allow the cities to communicate in diplomatic ways and come to laws and agreements about the continent. To keep control and protect the general public, the veterans from the war were repurposed as law enforcers, informally named by people as Overseers. These overseers were sent to the newly built cities and offered to pre-existing cities and now take residence in six of the twelve major cities throughout the continent.

Look and Seen

Roles of the overseers include many tasks, from guarding prisoners throughout the cities to patrolling the streets and watching out for anyone doing wrong. Made up of a few thousand per city to cover not just the inner city but the surrounding areas and villages. While they are present on the streets they aim not to be an overbearing force, they aim to be friendly and helpful whenever possible and only resort to forceful behaviour when required. Initially people were wary and cautious of the city guard but as time grew further away from the war, they were accepted as part of everyday life in the new era.   Easily spotted with a cloak draped over one shoulder with various colours depicting rank and position, all with the Federation emblem stitched into the fabric. The armour worn by each guard may change based on the city they reside in, but all bear the Federation crest on the outward facing plates. The under armour laced with basic painted runes making them immune to most common spells. Older members are typically the last active soldiers from the war, now positioned as captains, leaders and standing in high positions of power. Their skills and knowledge have helped train three new generations of overseers that now take care of the people.

Training:

In order to join the Federation and become an overseer, you must register and join the training program based in Ohar. Where the skills for basic fighting, instigation, law information and more will be given over a year period. Based on checks throughout the training process and an evaluation at the end of the training will determine where in the Federation a person will be stationed. The most common being an overseer but can also lead to other roles including diplomatic advisors, waystone guards and war deterrence. Once achieving the rank of an overseer, one can move up the ranks based on performance, knowledge and acts of courage. Leading to titles such as Captain, Chief and Commissioner.

“How did it come to this?” Aceron thought to himself as he hid round the corner trying evade the sight of two Overseers chasing him in the night. He tried to keep his heavy breathing under control and as quiet as possible as to not give his location away. Running, scrambling and spellcasting for nearly 15 minutes without a break had made him lightheaded. He still wore an old breastplate with the crest of the Federation on the front. Mere weeks ago he had been the one patrolling the streets alongside his chasers, now he was on the other side. But the things he had discovered in that time had changed his thoughts completely. They had been muddled and inverted. Growing up all he ever wanted was to be an overseer, and now… he didn’t know what to think.   The two guards ran past him and he continued in the opposite direction now down the street, putting his hood up. The embellished cloak he wore over the old overseer uniform made him quite a noticeable target but there was not much use in carrying it. Besides he didn’t just break into the garrisons and steal back his own cloak for nothing. He moved with a quick step trying to reach the edge of the city without being seen, Aceron didn’t know how much more running he could handle tonight.   Continue the Story?
