Strange Dreams
Hidden Meanings
"The dreaming mind possesses neither reason nor madness. It speaks instead in symbols borrowed from memory and stitched together by meanings that refuse to exist while we are awake."
Dreams are among the most personal experiences a character can have. They can be ordinary reflections of the previous day's events, strange collections of impossible imagery, glimpses of forgotten memories, or something far more significant. Most dreams mean nothing at all. A few may change the course of an entire adventure.
The dreams on this table are intentionally open to interpretation. A result might be nothing more than an odd night's sleep, a symbolic reflection of a character's thoughts, or a genuine omen sent by magic, a deity, or another supernatural force. Whether a dream carries hidden meaning or is simply the mind wandering in sleep is entirely up to the DM.
This table exists to answer one of the most common questions at the game table: "What did I dream about?" Rather than inventing a dream from scratch, the DM or player can roll for inspiration and build from the result if desired.
Some dreams may become important later. Others may never matter again. Both are equally valid. A seemingly prophetic dream can prove to be nothing more than coincidence, while the most mundane dream imaginable might contain the one detail that becomes meaningful months later.
Use these dreams as lightly or as heavily as suits your campaign. Sometimes a dream is simply a dream. Sometimes it is the beginning of a story.

I'm definitely going to use this! I love how they're easy to use and describe without eating up session time, especially if you need one dream to move the plot.

Exactly, one less thing to get hung up on. Maybe it'll be useful, and if not, who cares. :)
