Lavallo Ocean

The Lavallo Ocean is the warm western sea whose sun-fed currents shape Mesan's desert climate. Broad, glittering, and heavy with salt and heat, it is known for golden waters at dusk, dry coastal winds, and deep currents that carry warmth inland. Though less cursed and violent than the Furore Ocean, the Lavallo is not considered gentle; its beauty is ancient, scorching, and demanding.

From its waters, the Kiyara River begins its journey through Mesan before eventually feeding Lake Mirare, making the ocean one of the hidden lifelines of the desert land.

Fauna & Flora

Edible Lavallo Fish & Seafoods

Sunscale Mackerel - A sleek, fast fish with golden scales that flash near the surface at dawn and sunset.
This is one of Mesan’s most common coastal fish: grilled, salted, smoked, or dried for caravan travel.

Amberfin- A medium-sized fish with amber-orange fins and firm white meat.
It's popular in coastal Mesani dishes because it holds up well with spices, citrus-like desert fruits, and hot stone cooking.

Lavallo Glassfish- A small, nearly transparent fish found in the clear shallows and tide pools.
They can be eaten whole and fried, dried into crunchy snacks, or used in broths. Known as “coastal market food.”

Copperback Snapper- A reef fish with copper-red markings along its spine.
This is a prized dinner fish, especially among port towns. Often served roasted with salt crust and desert herbs.

Saltpearl Eel- A pale eel that lives in warm mineral pools and rocky crevices.
Edible but tricky to catch. Its meat could be rich and slightly oily, used in stews or smoked strips.

Stormshrimp- In the Lavallo, stormshrimp usually gather before dry lightning storms, making them a seasonal delicacy. Mesani cooks char them with peppery spice blends.

More Dangerous Ocean Predators

Brassjaw Shark- A large warm-water shark with a blunt, bronze-toned snout and serrated teeth.
It hunts near reefs and river mouths, especially where the Kiyara River meets the Lavallo. This fish isn't supernatural, just extremely dangerous.

Glassreef Ray- A huge ray that lies almost invisible against the bright seabed.
Its sting causes burning pain, fever, or temporary paralysis. Fishers know to shuffle their feet in shallow water to avoid stepping on one.

Sunmaw Leviathan- A rare deep-ocean predator, not something people encounter often.
Its hide is dark blue-black with glowing gold markings along its sides. It rises toward warmer surface waters during certain seasons, and sailors treat sightings as terrible omens.

Saltspine Moray- A thick-bodied eel predator with pale ridges along its back.
It hides in rocky shelves and snaps at anything that reaches into its den.

Cinderfin Barracuda- A long, silver predator with red-orange fins.
It hunts in sudden bursts and is drawn to flashing jewelry, polished metal, or bleeding fish. Mesani sailors warn children not to swim with shiny ornaments.

Goldwake Serpent- A long sea serpent that moves just beneath the surface, leaving a bright gold ripple behind it.
It's rare and semi-magical, connected to sun-warmed currents. Not necessarily evil, but territorial enough that ships give it a wide berth.
