SUBJECT: The Ancient Sciences

In my time here, it has become clear that while several of our contributors have made reasonably accurate inductions based on their observations, the principles by which the universe is ordered, as known to the Ancients and encoded within the Ancient Sciences, are now largely misunderstood, if not forgotten entirely. As the study of Ancient Wisdom has been my lifelong pursuit, I alone am equipped to rectify this situation. For fuller understanding, you will need to read the Liber Numerorum, wherein I have compiled the results of a lifetime of study. However, this post will serve as an introduction, sure to whet the appetite of the curious mind.

------- Ten is the Number -------

The Ancient Sciences are ten in number, for there are ten points within the sacred Tetraktys, and no science worthy of the name lies outside it. At the base are the Tetrad, the sciences of manifestation: Geomancy, Oneiromancy, Physiognomy, and Hierography. Above them sits the Triad, which are the sciences of relations: Harmonics, Astrology, and Alchemy. Even higher is the Dyad, the sciences of calculation: Arithmancy and Geometry. And finally, there is the Monad, the source of Knowledge, the science of divinity which we call Theurgy.

------- Manifestation -------

The four sciences of Manifestation concern the universe as it appears to us. They are the lowest of the Ancient Sciences, yet each stands above the fragmented disciplines so greatly prized by this diminished age.

• Geomancy is the study of place, as revealed through the terrestrial influences and hidden currents of the earth. From this all physical sciences are derived.
• Oneiromancy is the study of the mind, as revealed through dreams, and it is the wellspring of all arts, letters, and philosophies.
• Physiognomy is the study of character, as revealed through the physical form, and it is the source of all medicine.
• Hierography is the study of symbols, as revealed in the glyphs inscribed upon reality itself. It serves as the bridge by which all higher knowledge is transmitted.

------- Relations -------

The Triad of Relations are the sciences which explain how all things are connected and bound together, and how their respective proportions or ratios may reveal all.

• Harmonics is the science of Ratio in Time, and shows how all things are bound together into past, present, and future. The ratios of Harmonics are most apparent in Music.
• Astrology is the science of Ratio in Space, and shows how all things are bound together across distance, and how the configuration of all things influence each other. The ratios of Astrology are most useful in understanding one's place in the larger framework, and how one may benefit from the existing configuration
• Alchemy is the science of Ratio in Substance, of transformation, altering the ratios of both mind and matter, and allowing for the purification and elevation of the practitioner, thereby approaching the higher sciences

------- Calculation -------

In the sciences of Dyad, we begin to truly understand the nature of all things, moving beyond mere manifestation and relationships to the manipulation of those elements within the configuration of the universe.

• Geometry is the science of Shape, Number made manifest.
• Arithmancy is the science of Number itself, the first principle from which all things proceed.

------- The Monad -------

And at last we come to the Monad, the supreme science, the source of all Knowledge. This is Theurgy, the science of connection to the divine, the apprehension of the universe itself. It encompasses and informs every lesser science, for all knowledge descends from the Monad, and all true inquiry returns to it.

------- A Beginning -------

This is sufficient to begin with - to explain further would be fruitless. Take this into your mind and contemplate upon it, and then return to me for the next lessons. It is wrong to tip the vessel of knowledge - the study of Ancient Wisdom demands patience and dedication above all things.

Indeed - these are far more clearly and accurately explained in the courses provided by the Celestial Transmission Fellowship, Cousin. I'm afraid that Cousin Tetraktys has misinterpreted the wisdom of the Luminous Architects quite badly here.
