Gnome
Gnomes are a sapient species present in the world of Theos, and one of the original enlightened species.
Gnomes are small humanoids with their own friends and credit cards and keys.
Gnomes have an average expected lifespan of 175 years.
Enlightenment
As one of the species enlightened by the elves as they settled in Pyalea, gnomes were regarded for their dexterity and intelligence, and for the advantages of their stature.
They made for excellent crafters of fine goods, tinkerers, and writers, taking quickly and capably to the concepts as taught, and showing great talent and ingenuity for their acquired crafts and practices.
Perhaps due to their more distinctive physical differences, their natural ill temperaments, and/or the particular beliefs and practices exhibited by authorities in Geneaux where the gnomish population was largely concentrated, the gnomes historically had the most trouble fitting in or accepting life within the Empire, at least as the Empire saw fit to arrange it.
Largely integrated in with human populations, if they weren't further segregated themselves, gnomes or gnome-led factions were at the heart of the majority of controversies and conflicts that preceded the independence of enlightened factions and peoples, and the recognition of truly equal rights within the Empire.
To this day, purely gnomish settlements are rare, as are large gnomish populations in smaller or rural settlements. It is far more likely to find a strong gnomish community situated within a larger city, most commonly those of high human populations.

Naming Traditions
Though naming traditions vary depending on the culture surrounding them, they tend towards short, simple names, usually featuring if not exclusively using existing nouns, either on their own or in combination.
Families tend to name in similar themes, favouring names based on gemstones, or mechanical components, for example.
