Vrex (Vuh-rex)
"The wiring was a nightmare, coolant lines nearly shot. Honestly, I’m surprised you’re still in one piece.”Vrex is a Shapeshifter and Outworlder formerly employed as a mechanic and engineer aboard a Galactic Union freighter. Following a catastrophic failure of the ship and a subsequent falling out with the surviving crew, Vrex was left behind with their newborn child, Tali. They were eventually found and rescued by a scavenger named Kaius Ardent, and now work for him maintaining his ship.
Appearance
Vrex is 5'11" and tends to favour lean, wiry forms when shifting, finding them best suited for moving through tight spaces and ventilation shafts. They wear an adaptive suit styled as a mechanic's jumpsuit, paired with a well-worn utility belt. Background
Vrex is an Outworlder for the Shapeshifter Administration. Despite the Galactic Union's general prejudice toward Shapeshifters, Vrex secured a position aboard one of its freighter ships on the merit of their mechanical ability, building a solid reputation among the crew for doing their job well. When the freighter suffered a catastrophic failure and the crew was left stranded in deep space, Vrex made the decision to consume fallen crew members rather than deplete the rationed food supply, preserving resources for the survivors. The act was practical from Vrex's perspective, but it drove a deep wedge between them and the rest of the crew. When evacuation finally came, the surviving crew left Vrex behind with Tali, then still a newborn.
Vrex and Tali survived alone on the stricken freighter until Kaius Ardent discovered them. Initially suspicious of his motives, Vrex came to trust him after he stayed around through their recovery. They have worked for him ever since.
