A Neat Hobgoblin

As a member of the hobgoblin family, boggles are small whimsical beings. The tallest boggles can reach the length of a four year old child, but most are way smaller than that. Their face is wide, mouth wider still and eyes bulbous. Their skin is cracked stone grey or ribbed bark brown. For quick hiding they roll up into a ball to mimic a boulder, or huddle in tall roots of old trees, but boggles are best known to disguise themselves as large toads.
Compared to other hobgoblins, boggles enjoy a good scrubbing. They don’t necessarily mind the grime and mud between their fingers and toes, but oh, do they enjoy the feeling of warm water washing it away. Because of this they can be found living in the mountains near hot springs or warm water pools. Oftentimes, humans living in the area aid the boggles in their cleansing rituals, for a happy boggle is less likely to eat a human. In Bogglebath this has resulted in the construction of a spa-esque structure around the warm water pool where the Boggle King lives today.

Hide and Drink

Another thing that makes the boggle a unique hobgoblin, is their relationship with dew moss, which covers their backs, arms and shins. In essence the relationship is very simple. The moss provides the boggle a better camouflage—mossy rocks and mossy roots are more realistic in the environments they inhabit—and also provides a layer of insulation against both warmth and cold. In return, the boggle provides what the moss loves most: water. Due to their cleaning habits, boggles spend much time in the water, and so the moss is soaked too and happily provided with a drink.
