Splintered Forest
The Splintered Forest is a temperate forest stretching from Ayrith's south well into the wildlands of Elderspire. Some say the forest gets its name from the jagged branches jutting out of some of its trees while others tell stories of vile beasts calling the woods home splintering the trees with their claws. In any event, small villages persist throughout the region along the rivers and lakes of the interior. These settlements are agricultural, and a couple include a mill. The Splintered Forest is responsible for much of the lumber that makes its way north to cities like Almavira, Portus Cale, and Bascana. The woods are also home to disparate tribes of goblinoids who have mostly hostile relations with the settled folk, especially through raids for cattle, tools, and captives. Travellers, merchants, and minstrels often make the trek through the Splintered Forest to peddle wares and news from village to village, though some outsiders prefer to avoid the trouble altogether by sticking to the coast.
