Phoenix

Written and created by Seth R. Mitchell.

The legendary flaming bird of the skies, Phoenix, has been told about in myths for ages, with myths about it all over the world, in every single continent, including even Celesteon. All of the accounts seem to vary depending on who is telling the story.

Basic Information

Anatomy

It is described often as an immense, searing bird with glowing cerulean blue eyes, with flames across its whole body, particularly along its wings. It has a heavy head and large hooked beak, long, evenly broad wings, muscular legs and powerful talons.

Biological Traits

It is described in all reports as being entirely on fire, so it is surmised that it is an Element-Flame Mystimon with fire abilities. For this reason, it was recently classified as part of the elemental family. Some scholars also theorise that it may be related to other Mystimon such as Wintress and Thundrix, though this hasn't been confirmed.

Genetics and Reproduction

There have been some reports of a Phoenix nest being discovered in the Quatrica Islands and Almahna in recent years. However, this has almost always been proven to be a hoax or misidentification. To date, no Phoenix nest has ever been found, so it is unknown how they reproduce or whether they reproduce at all.

Ecology and Habitats

Phoenix appears in legends throughout the entire world, on every continent and island. The mythology varies between cultures, but it is persistent.

Dietary Needs and Habits

It is unknown what they eat, as no one has ever really observed them in the wild other than scattered sightings of them in the skies above throughout the generations. However, scholars believe that they are raptors, similar to Eagleye, and feed on meat and fish.

Biological Cycle

In Quatrican myth, they die every winter and then are reborn at the beginning of spring the following year, and that each time it is reborn, a sibling is born as well. However, this is mere myth.

Behaviour

Scholars believe they are predators, similar to other raptor species.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Two have never been seen at the same time. In every sighting around the world, only one was ever present at any given time. However, scholars are quick to point out that this does not prove that they are solitary creatures and they may very well have a social structure that we simply have never seen.

Domestication

With so many varying accounts of Phoenix all over the world, scholars have been dismissing a large amount of them as pure myth and only focusing on some that seem to fit their belief of what it actually is. However some believe this way of thinking is too close-minded and that they should be open to other possibilities.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Phoenix feathers will show up once in a blue moon in markets around the world. Most of the time, they are fakes. However, there have been some that could have been genuine, though they are scarce.

Facial characteristics

Phoenix has never been seen up close, and its description varies between cultures. Highwindian mythology, for example, describes Phoenix has have a straight, long beak, whereas in Quatrican myth, it is described with a long hooked beak. The cerulean blue eyes is consistent throughout the world, however. It is not known how anyone has ever seen the eyes to make that distinction though, since sighting reports have all described seeing it from afar.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Phoenix sightings have long come in from all over the world, in Almahna, all the way to Gothica, even the polar lands. There doesn't appear to be anywhere in the world it hasn't been seen.

Average Intelligence

In Quatrican myth, it is described as one of the most intelligent Mystimon in the world. Some reports have even described it as having the incredible and outlandish ability to speak. Scholars completely dismiss these reports as pure myth.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

It has Element-Flame special abilities, however, Quatricans believe that it also has light healing magic, connected to its rumoured ability to be reborn after death. However, without any evidence, scholars dismiss these beliefs as well.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

In Quatrican myth it has long been described as having a symbiotic relationship with people, with this being the reason is appears to so many people all over the world. They believe that Phoenix's connection to people goes back to ancient times, to even the time of the Dinozaurs, and that it is a protector to all.

Civilization and Culture

Common Myths and Legends

Phoenix appears in mythologies across the world, but one theme is common throughout: According to myth, Phoenix will appear to those about the begin a new journey or adventure. In Quatrican myth, it is believed that they die at the end of winter and are reborn in the spring in a continuous cycle. In Highwindian myth, it is thought that should you see a Phoenix at the start of a voyage, that you will have a smooth trip and the sea will be fair.
