Trieste
Trieste is the capital city of Caelsimil and located on the eastern portion of the Caelsimilan Peninsula. It sits west of the Shyali Range and south west of Necropolis. Also known as the Old Capital, this major city is a leader in technological innovation within the peninsula.
Demographics
Trieste is home to roughly one million, seven-hundred thousand permanent residents within its city walls and the surrounding farmland. With roughly 50% made up of various heritages of humans, elves, and human and elven mixed heritages, the rest of the population is a diverse spread of ancestries found all throughout Caelsimil, including gnomes, dwarves, halflings, nephilim, orcs, and others.
Defences
The city was erected near the Shyali mountain range, tucked within a large group of rolling hills that allowed its original settlers both to remain hidden and to build their defensive walls within the slopes themselves, relying on them for stability. They constructed buildings that burrowed into the hilly terrain and defensive towers that climbed them, allowing soldiers to get an ample view of the surrounding area while keeping the main city safely hidden away. Its thick walls were designed to remain firm under both physical and magical fire and its protruding limbs built to interrupt and confuse enemy marches, while keeping the interior of the city clean and organized.
Infrastructure
Trieste is the first city in the country to boast its own railway system, a passenger train that runs on a track just outside the heart of the city. In addition, there is space both within the city walls and outside for building and landing airships, which are used primarily for the transport of goods and livestock over long distances. The heart of the city generates its public electricity through hydroelectric power generated from a dam that runs around the city square. It's thanks to its ever-flowing current that the streets are able to remain lit without relying on magic to maintain it.
