Kay Yamoto
In a world based on merit and guile, there is something to say about how she works a room.
Kay Yamoto is not the smartest of Natare - not that she needs to be. Nor is she the hardest worker - as if that mattered. It is not even that she can outwit her competitors in a conversation or debate. But everyone who leaves the room with Kay feels like they have been outdone.
Growing up in the city of knowledge, Kay's parent were famous within the academy as botanists and architects, which let Kay grow up in a certain amount of style. There is no nepotism in the academic world of Natare but a pretty smile and a light leaning on the right people allowed the young Kay to go from budding in the eye of her tutors, to model student.
From student she turned to powerful socialite and influence broker, trading on her parent's clout firstly then on the strength of her own deals and reputation. Each deal she managed, each ear she bent turned into a mark upon her skin, soon a map of her best and brightest coordinations by the artist Pendula Fooltree. They wove on her body in a myriad of ferns and whispered designs, her body a canvas of accomplishment.

For a woman who does not need to keep her body fit, Ms Yamoto keeps herself deliberately in that balance between effortless academian and toned hunter, her training meant to evoke both beauty and how effortlessly she is both and above all she works with. Her nails are always trimmed short, but never dirt under them, her skin always smooth from a sand-bath, and her poise always flawless.
Identifying Characteristics
Her most striking feature is her tattoos - even from a young age she had the vine pattern across her throat, from when she talked down an argument within her Tutor group. Her parents allowed her to mark herself with her victory - to hide the faint scar she got from falling when a stray blow caught her in the scuffle.
She also enjoys dying her normally brown hair, often keeping it icy blue, something uniquely artificial in a realm of naturalism.

For all her powers of persuasion, Kay's gait is very stiff and measured - keeping a rigid back despite her efforts to match the mood of those she interacts with - often those with extensive social privilege.

Personal history
With her father a well respected member of the House of Angles, and her mother botanist from the (Solaris academy) it was natural that Kay returned to the fold after her tutoring years. With deep connections with her parents, it was only natural that her ability to persuade and position people was utilised in her early days to turn her parent's moderate influence into scions in their fields - at least for the time being. But getting her parents connected allowed the young Ms Yamoto to position herself in the place she needed to be.
Of course Miss Yamoto was part of the first Fashion Week , although she was only the second last model in the walk. That was not the case in future Fashion Weeks.

Failures & Embarrassments
Kay's greatest embarrassment was setting up a celestial mathematician with a bard and a seer to try and predict the next Convergence of the outer planets and was embarrassed when several members turned out to be frauds.
A minor embarrassment was linking her name so firmly to the older city council, while she was not the only one to do so, and was significantly young when most of the scandal and corruption was happening, her name was besmirched by the ties she had made.

Mental Trauma
Due to not being as intelligent as the peers in her tutorage group, Kay's parents became hyper strict during her childhood. This has infected her with an inferiority complex that she hides behind her reputation and dealings. Whether her return to the fold came from what she could see as a gain from them, or their constant pressure being too hard to wiggle from, her link to and her mention of her parent is done sparingly in her adulthood, and a swift way of turning a conversation cold.

Likes & Dislikes
Likes to chew on fried wattle bark wafers. Is a fan of long soaking sand-baths and loofa body scrubs.
Hates feeling like she is being belittled or mocked to an almost paranoid degree.
Wealth & Financial state
Her residence is in the same tower that houses the sky terrace, and once Naya Stormbringer moved into her author phase, it was her who manoeuvred her to trade into the tower too.

She sounds like an interesting character. It sucks that she feels a little inferior because she's not academically talented, but I'm glad she's found a niche.
