Jump Rides
One of the first types of hoverbike tech in Infernus was the Jump Ride. Replacing the more dangerous and unpredictable wild mounts of Infernus, Jump rides were made to cross the vast expanses without need for healing of a mount on the other side. Mounts used to be large, awkward and dangerous to care for, and expensive to loose, and each journey was an exercise in risking said mount against the iron wind.
Jump Rides, though more lethal than anything before or since, were a significant increase in both speed and reparability - iron sheets being much easier to procure than waiting for reinforced hide to heal over. The major technological jump was the burning of solid metal carbide/sulphide hybrids, most notably aluminium. Mined naturally, the metallic compound was encased in a runic engine, driving giant blades that would act like a jet engine that the reader would be familiar with.
The growing of these single user Jump Rides allowed both enhancing of the forces that connect and the forces that repulse - ambushes could move with much more speed, raiding enhanced with less damage needed to be taken to secure a score. But in the same breath, scouts between settlements joined with couriers and soon both the independent cities, and those under the Hsithborn Demonarchy could provide news and small to medium sized physical objects in fast, reliable trade. For larger cargos, the caravans were still the more reliable way, but speed would soon prove to be a valuable resource.

History
The invention of the Jump ride would see problems in use above much more than a single user mount, for the engineering needed to stabilise the moments produced along any vehicle needing more than one of these Jump Engines. The Infernus engineers would come to work on making the single user mounts of the Jump Rides, banking on using a success in the now rather than obsessing over a possible future victory. While Jump engines would see further success in the future, in the now what they had was enough. The growing of these single user Jump Rides allowed both enhancing of the forces that connect and the forces that repulse - ambushes could move with much more speed, raiding enhanced with less damage needed to be taken to secure a score. I am not so sure I would have preferred a more lethal method of transportation over a more expensive one. On the other hand, the same was probably the case for the first cars ...
