River Arcas

One of the two great rivers that stem from the southern tip of the Dragons' Tears Mountains, the River Arcas separates the eastern edge of the Desolation of Melchis from the confusing mass of the Sisters Marsh to the east.

Geography

The River Arcas has its source in the lower reaches of the Dragons' Tears Mountains and eventually flows into the Centric Sea. However, for almost its entire length, it is hard to tell exactly where the main course of the river ends and the expanse of the Sisters Marsh begins and indeed, some geographers and cartographers claim that the two entities should be considered as part of a single, larger ecosystem.

Localized Phenomena

Whether it is simply sheer fluke, or whether it has something to do with the magical energies leeching into its waters from the Desolation of Melchis, creatures which call the River Arcas home tend to grow to much larger sizes than they normally would. Whilst this is a boon for the people who scrap out a living on the river’s edge, who are able to catch fish many times larger than they should be, it also brings dangers, as the predatory creatures, crocodiles especially also grow many sizes larger than is typical.
