The Ocean Wayfarer Star Navigators
The Kareshi were guided by the dance of the twin stars, Danare and Zirakon, when they crossed both oceans and space in their star canoes that gleamed like living shells. Life aboard these vessels was filled with song as navigators sang into the rigging. Their brightly colored gravity sails were inspired by marine life and their star canoes would fold their shells during atmospheric re-entry.
Geographic Location
The Kareshi roamed the volcanic archipelagos off the eastern coast of Ilatwai Dari. They sailed the Alera Ocean near the equator mostly between ten degrees north and ten degrees south latitudes.
Migration Patterns
Entire fleets of gleaming star canoes could be seen bobbing on the waves of the Alera Ocean all along the eastern coast of Ilatwai Dari as the Kareshi hopped from island to island tending to their maritime region. Their seafaring lanes ran parallel to the equator on both sides and were connected to the southeastern coast of Aokaan Dari via Moon Crescent Harbor where they would arrive, in grand crescent formations of shimmering vessels, on their way to attend the Festival of Titi'abule.
Landscape & Settlements
Luminous plankton, brightly colored mini sea dragons, and flying sky fish populated the waters surrounding the Kareshi archipelagoes. Their settlements consisted of both portable beach encampments and floating live coral habitats. On land, they built storm safe driftwood and reinforced thatch shelters, and on the water, they formed floating star canoe villages.
Daily Life
For the Kareshi, mornings involved star checks and tidal charts, while the rest of the day was spent sailing, crafting, and teaching navigation lore through song. In the evenings, the people would come together to prepare and share a communal meal that generally consisted of raw or smoked seafood served with steamed sea vegetables and fermented kelp drinks. The elders and tribal singers would sing songs of epic voyages with melodies that sounded like the ebb and flow of the ocean tides.
Dress
The Kareshi typically wore comfortable open weave garments made from breathable fabrics adorned with glowing shell bead story strings. Their signature piece of clothing was a brightly colored wrap that felt like a hug and was made by quilting together pieces of sail cloth into brilliant mosaic patterns and infusing the fabric with soothing sound frequencies.
Ecotech
The folding shell design and gravity sails of Kareshi star canoes enabled them to navigate long distances both on water and through space. Their coral biotech habitats were grown from living coral that was lovingly tended by its inhabitants and their navigators relied on tech enhanced volcanic glass tide and star maps.
Sky Cycle Interpretation
The Kareshi used the geometric forms created in the sky by the movements of Danare, the bright and steady star, and Zirakon, the smaller unpredictable one, to form the basis of navigation and ritual cosmology. They interpreted the interactions of the two stars as an intricate dance above to be mirrored in the sacred rites of the people below.
