Veran Ethalar

Biologist expert for Emergency Team #1 of the Vessel InTerra 23 and leader of the terraforming overview team of the VI23.

Studies and history

Veran was someone who excelled at his primary, secondary and high school studies, lowering his grades slightly in college, and then excelling again during his master before writing a thesis that would be used as based for the science of terraforming across the whole world.

His thesis became quite important in between the scientists researching terraforming, and gave him an important position in a world-wide project that ended up sending the first multi-generational, cryo-stasis using, spaceship towards the distant planet of Eraida, where the people would terraform the planet and then claim as their own.

His work and knowledge of the project gave him a position on the VI23. Originally entering as lead scientist for the terraforming effort once the vessel reached Eraida, he was also put in the first emergency team after all the studies he did about the vessel and the cryo-stasis system.

Studies: Master in Biological Anthropology, Master in Environmental Biology, PHD in Terraformation of Planets, 2 years in Astronaut Training, 1 year in Spaceship’s Life systems, 1 year in Human Medicine, 3 months in Basics of Cryo-stasis.

Usefulness in Eraida

While a partial detriment to the reproduction goals for Eraida (homosexual and does not desire children or taking care of them), he's a great asset for the terraforming project and, if free time allowed, can also be of great help at other biology-based project (such as the plant breeding project to find the best plants for Eraida)

If convinced, he could be a great teacher for future generations, as everyone working with him has claimed he explains everything in a way where they can understand everything without even having scientifical background.

Lost File

Appearance overview: Black, long, braided hair. Black skin. Green eyes. Taller than average. Fit (after astronaut training). No tattoos, piercings, or other body alterations.

Criminal record: None known.

Psychological diagnosis for space travel: Perfectly sane. Claimed by 5 different experts.

Family: None left. Note added by Dr. Ethalar: I have a dog and a bird. I'll miss them. Also, ███████, I have a partner, but it's not marriage and not counted legally or whatever ██████. I thought we were more advanced with marriage.

Important genetics: No signs of any kind of inherited illnesses in three generations. High-resistance to cancer (Gene found). Slight sight issues (Caused by a receding gene, not worrying). Lactose tolerant. No allergies known.

The original file from the VI23 database has been modified and expanded multiple times by either hackers or the government of Eraida. We struggle to separate what parts are added by who, and to show impartibility to the conflict in Eraida regarding the covering up of the terraforming of VI23, we have left all the expanded text.

We apologize by the chaos and intense wording (some might even call it asynchrony arguing).

By the laws of Eraida and the ethics of its people, Dr. Ethalar has been accused and found guilty of murder, genocide, and eco-terrorism.

Regardless of whatever (wrongly) the government has accused Veran, he is one of the most loved person in Eraida. He gave us the planet with his terraforming effort. Dickasses.

Dr. Veran Ethalar is a great example of why the law to deny the government the right to hide documents to the public —of course, privacy is an important matter that is talked about in the Act 4, section III of the document that supports this law. His persona has been hid away for over a century and the VI23 has been accused of damaging this section of the planet Eraida. These governmental lies —claimed to be said to protect our claim in the planet and public mental peace, albeit have no fundaments— have damaged his reputation and the general population of Eraida would wish to apologize that our government has been such a ████████████████ and wants to let the reader now we’ve since then changed our government and are still improving it.

Lots of words used to just say you are using his memory as yet another tool in your political toolbox. Don't get me wrong, I partially agree with your proposed law, but there's some points I strongly disagree with it. That said, if you really think he's such a good tool for you, consider reducing my condemn since I've freed his documents to our planet :D

If you are indeed the civilian who hacked and got in a governmental facility —albeit a digital one—, I thank you for your work, but your methods are the reason of your condemn and I cannot condone them.

Oh, but when Veran hacks an AI (in a very rudimental way, though he wasn't taught coding) to stop the roombas from moving him and to dispense an experimental drug on thousands of people, then it's fine.

Veran's case and your case are highly different.

Dr. Ethalar's incredibly detailed notes about the terraforming progress the machines conducted while he was still alive have been a great help to understand our world and learn where it lacks and where it overflows in certain things. It's a shame he wasn't able to record all the process, but it would have been impossible due to lifespan even if he managed to keep some sanity.

Dr. Ethalar's thesis on terraforming, while painfully out-of-date, have brought some interesting details and points of views that have advanced quite importantly our knowledge and practises. His studies on the pathogen affecting the VI23 also improved our knowledge of cryo-stasis, and while he wasn't able to save his crew —due a combination of lack of materials, unstable basic AI model, and lateness—, his studies has helped treat a lot of cryo-based sickness that we were unaware of it being possible. Thank you for your effort.

Even though its a part of his work that's much less talked about, we owe him greatly for his efforts on making the seeds transported with the VI23 be as much adapted as the terraforming as possible. His efforts on breeding plants able to survive through the terraforming project. Since then, these plants have expanded and differentiated each other as they populated the planet, giving us plenty of resources.

While talking about plants, thanks man for breeding them to be more and more productive, and for leaving the entrance of the VI23 filled to the brim with dirt and plants. It helped a lot to feed our people when we arrived at Eraida and we still were figuring out what was edible and what wasn't.

"Perfectly sane. Claimed by 5 different experts." I want to put this on my social profiles now XD Also, apparently being ***sexual is only a "partial detriment" to reproduction goals? XDDD The hackers' use of the article as a discussion board is such a cool idea!

Great to see another article for this world. It doesn't seem he is being loved by all, but I guess that is just the government and most of the normal people do love him?

Jul 7, 2026 11:29 by Catoblepon

TY! I don't think anyone is loved by all, there will always be someone who will not like them, so I've played with that concept in this article!

Unlikely yes, I just wasn't sure if the majority on Eraida loves him or despises him. I think he did the best he could, but maybe I don't know everything yet ...

It's the problems of old history, mostly written by the victors (or, in this case, by the colonizers who decided he wasn't worth bringing up) who don't often talk well of the losers (in this case, bringing up his failures instead of the goods he did).
