They torrent across the mysterious existence that is the online world, armed with nothing but a mouse and a keyboard. Each of them sets out to find what has never been found before, what was never meant to be found before. They are dangers beyond imagination. But they are neccessary dangers.

Secrets

The job of a Codeskimmer revolves around the rather obscure concept of secrets. SOmething that they weren't supposed to access, but did anyways. They do as their title implies - they break into code and try to find hidden gems of knowledge that they hadn't known before. That most of Fractola doesn't know. They are just on the cusp of learning about the Virus and its true whereabouts. And what makes them terrifying to Fractus is that they could be the pioneers of the future.

Searching

The primary purpose of being a Codeskimmer is the thrill of searching for - and finding - something hidden. It is a rush of adrenaline, a gamble that draws in the riskiest of personalities towards the riskier world of hacking in modern Fractola.

It is a high risk behavior that has been proposed by Fractus-controlled media stations as a symptom of the Virus, in attempts to have the public independently remove Codeskimmers from reality.

A Level of Skill

Unlike Breaking and Entering, which often is left unconsequenced and can be performed by amateurs, being a Codeskimmer requires a practiced hand. It is not a childish hobby or a phase - it is a lifestyle. It is a lifestyle that can become deadly. One might go so far as to say that it often becomes deadly.

And I'll die a gruesome death, at that. One that will become a secret.

Codeskimmers found 'guilty' are most often Gassed, out of Fractolan government's fear that the public eye will become fixated to the world of Codeskimming, that it might escalate into a movement; worse, anarchy. Loss of control.

Much of the time, Codeskimmers are ex-upperclassmen who abandoned their post as a Spider employee, or at digital science university, or in an internship. Or something to the level where they would have been powerful employees of a powerful corporation - but their ethical inclinations held them back from the societal standard of success.

Leave No Trace

The career of a Codeskimmer requires a careful balance - delicate maneuvers. One's digital footprint must be near to invisible, their physical traces much the same. The small community that they are made up of is forced to be completely incognito, for the risk of being murdered for what they do.

A Constant Pursuit

Fractus and Spider have significant parts of their workforce devoted to 'weeding out' the Codeskimmers, bit by bit. No small feat, of course, but with the entire worl government on your side, there is much for the Codeskimmer community to be faced with. Fractus in particular is terrified by the mere prospect of the existence of this title, making it a substantial priority in Fractola's political landscape.
