Summer Camp Prep 2026
Hello!
I have participated in the last year's Summer camp and World Ember 2025. I have enjoyed both. While I am a pantser, sometimes writer, I am building my world as I go. I hope to add more depth to it by participating in these challenges. I will be working on my Fae Realm story and expanding on some of the ideas there as well as writing fresh and new ones to better flesh things out.
I am going for the copper badge (8 articles) but if I write more, go team! I look forward to sharing with all of you and reading what you write as well!
Good luck to all!
I will be adding my weeks here as I go, putting in my homework and hopscotches here.
Week One: Love
While I made my pledge above and posted my pledge certificate, I can elaborate a little. I would like to write at least 8 articles for this summer camp. But my aim is to enrich my world with the little bits and places and people that make a world come alive. I will be working in my Fae Realm world, bringing more depth, texture, and character to my world.
Hopscotch: For the hopscotch this week, I have two goals. I wish to create new articles that detail parts of my world previously unknown to the reader as well as to me. I would like to experience my world as I create it, bringing life to it.I would like to update my primer or my world bible, detailing important locations as well as the smaller background ones that are just as important as the main locations.
Optional prompt: Roselake a town touched by myth and catering to love and those seeking it.
Week Two: Growth
My focus this summer camp will be twofold. I would like to give more character to my characters. I want to explore them more and their relationship to each other and to the world. I want to get them out of the two-dimensional and get them more into the three dimensional, a person the reader can identify with. I also want to create some of the flavor text, creating people, places and things that the reader will think "I wonder whats going on back there? " without losing focus on the main story. Those flavor texts are the fiddling little bits that make the story more full and rich.
Hopscotch: I got row one for this weeks hopscotch. As a game master, giving the players background and flavor text is part of the fun and often creates more avenues of adventure, even if they are not always wanted. That annoying dwarven bard that the players heard once suddenly becomes someone the players get info from or see at other venues and learn more about him. Same with my story. Some of the areas that may never get fully explored will have background to them, making the world fuller and more detailed.
Optional prompt: Hy-Brasil
WeekThree: Loss
I am the ultimate pantser. I will write between clients at work, jot notes down as I am doing my paperwork, or while watching tv. I will have dedicated time to write with Inara Reynolds on a weekly basis, bouncing ideas off of each other. Once I get to writing on an Anvil prompt page, I can put out 1,000 words quite quickly. My problem will be knowing when to shut up. :)
Hopscotch: My hopscotch for week 3 is 3. I have read many of Inara's articles as well as others here on World anvil. Many provide me with inspiration, even if it is indirectly.
Optional prompt: The Lost Language of the Spriggans
Week Four: Family
The question that most called to me is 'why am I a worldbuilder?" I have been a game master for over 40 years, almost all of that as a game master. Designing worlds, characters, situations and all of it for the players was always my thing. Doing it for a story seems to me to be more personal, more for me, though I am seeking to share it with all of you. I enjoy making the big situations as well as 'the little fiddly bits' as Slartibartfast said.
Hopscotch: I have a wonderful accountability buddy in Inara Reynolds https://www.worldanvil.com/author/Inara%20Reynolds as well as those who read and comment on my articles. I count all of World Anvil as indirect accountability buddies.
