Satyr
Satyr, sometimes called Fauns, are a species native to the Land of Faerie that are often described as a hybrid of two species, having the upper body of an Elf and the legs of a goat.
Satyr are famous for their hedonism and lustfulness, especially those within the Land of Faerie. A large number of Satyr within the Land of Faerie are members of the Baccheia, a hedonistic cult who worship the God of Wine and Revelry, the Divine Patron of the Satyr, Dionysus, by throwing exuberant parties of food, drink, drugs and orgies across the Realm of the Fae.
Satyr tend to be an easy-going people, with a love of song, dance, comedy and theatre. Even outside of the Baccheia, Satyr are known to be great lovers of food, drink, drugs and celebrations. They are said to be great party guests, with their culture emphasising the pursuit of joy, friendship and pleasure.
Often attributed to their enjoyment of food and drink, Satyr are often plump or chubby in shape, but rarely obese. This extra weight seems to be an attractive and desirable quality among Satyr, and has less negative health effects on Satyr compared to many other species.
Centaur and Satyr are closely related, with it believed that they share a common ancestor. Due to both species' hybrid-like appearance, it is often speculated that the ancestor of both the Centaur and Satyr was a Mammal that had accidentally wandered into the Land of Faerie, only to become transformed, over generations, by the strange Fae Magics that permeate the Plane.
Satyr are found living across the Land of Faerie, but can primarily be found living among the FaeCourts or in other high populated areas. While most Satyr are Fae, not members of the courts, they seem to gravitate towards areas of celebration and merriment. Many Satyr are also members of travelling bands or theatre troupes, crossing the Land of Faerie, bringing merriment and celebration wherever they go.
But not all Satyr share in their cultures love of noise and celebration, some pursuit a more quiet life among the remote Wildfae communes or even druidic communities found across the Land of Faerie.
Satyr are not a common sight in Exorsia, but many do make their home here. Like in the Land of Faerie, Satyr are often travelling entertainers or members of druidic communities, but others are just your average citizens, living in towns and cities across the world.
The First Satyr
The first Satyr is said to be the Archfae Pan, a Wildfae known for being a rambunctious and exuberant entity, filled with merry song and dance, and responsible for throwing grand and boisterous parties in the Land of Faerie. Pan was a legendary figure among Satyr, honoured alongside Dionysus. He was said to be often surrounded and attended to by an entourage of Satyr who honoured him as a God-like figure. But Pan has not been seen or heard from in centuries, ever since the dawn of the Age of Arcanum. Many Satyr still cling onto hope that their Lord would return, holding grand celebrations in an attempt to entice him back to them.
Appearance
Satyr are bipedal humanoids with legs often said to resemble that of a goat. A Satyr's legs are covered in a thick fur, starting from around their waist. They also have a short tail and hooves. A Satyr upper body is humanoid-looking, with wide pointed ears, rounded features, a prominent nose, and two curved horns that protrude out of the top of a Satyr's head. Satyr hair is usually curly, but it can be long and wavey. Satyr also often have thick body hair across their torso and arms, particularly among males of the species, who are also known to grow long beards.
Complexion: Satyr skin tones are similar to Humans, ranging from a light pale complexion to a dark brown one.
Hair: Satyr hair ranges from black, brown, blonde or ginger, commonly turning grey or white with age.
Eyes: Satyr tend to have brown, green or hazel coloured eyes, with horizontal goat-like pupils.
Fur: A Satyr's lower body is covered in thick fur, usually of one colour, ranging from tones of brown, black, white or grey, but their fur can also be dotted with splotches, stripes or markings of another colour. A Satyr's fur often matches the colour of their head and body hair, but not always. A Satyr's fur also loses it's colour less frequently than their hair.
