Medea - The Witch

Medea, the Witch is a Daimon, and a powerful Witch and Spellcaster in the retinue of the Goddess of Magic, Hekate.

Medea was once the Half-Elven daughter of King Aeëtes and Queen Idyia, making her the granddaughter of the Sun God Helios, and the niece of the Daimon Circe. Medea lived during the Bronze Age and appears in a few myths and legends from that time as a powerful Witch and disciple of the teachings of Hekate. She was a master of medicinal Magic, using potions, herbs and poisons to great effect in the aid and heal her allies, as well as to bring death to her numerous enemies.

Medea is largely a tragic figure, being best known for aiding an unnamed hero in acquiring the Golden Fleece, which was under the protection of her family. Charmed by the hero's promises of marriage and exploration, Medea used her Magic to aid him in the completion of the impossible tasks set for the hero by her father Aeëtes, eventually enchanting the Fleece’s Draconic protector to sleep, allowing the hero to claim his prize. But as they escaped, Medea's brother pursued them, and Medea was forced to slay her own brother to protect the hero, saving his life once more.

Keeping his promise, the hero took Medea with him as they fled by boat, becoming embroiled in numerous adventures as they sailed back to the hero's home, with Medea continuing to save the hero's life again and again. Eventually after arriving to the hero's home, the two were wed, and Medea soon bore the hero two sons. But it was not a happy relationship and after 10 years of marriage the hero abandoned Medea and her children to wed a younger woman of higher station. Enraged at all she has sacrificed, Medea killed her children and the hero' s new bride, leaving him without an heir and ending his bloodline. His name remains undocumented as punishment.

Despite her crimes against her family, Medea is rescued from the hero's wrath by the Divine Intervention of the Gods, who flew her to safety upon the golden Chariot of Helios, where she would eventually return home, restoring her families house and returning the Golden Fleece back to it's rightful home.

Medea then seemly vanished from the historical record, until she reappears years later, immortalised, and elevated to the position of Daimon by Hekate, so that she could serve at Hekate's side, being the only Half-Demigod to be ascended in this manner. Hekate is rumoured to now reside somewhere within the Plane of Olympus, or within the Underworld, where she continues her practice of dark Magic by the side of the Goddess Hekate.

Appearance

Medea is described as she was in life, strange, macabre Half-Elven woman, with olive skin, long black hair and a perpetually sombre expression.

She is usually described as being clothed in the long black robes and veil of mourners, her hands stained red with blood. She is also often depicted wielding a ritual dagger and a cup that either contains a magical, life-saving remedy, or a deadly poison.

Personality

In her myths, Medea is described as a confident, as well as both extremely competent and intelligent, using her mastery over Magic to effectively solve all the problems that stand in her way. She is also depicted as strange and unconventional, a outcast-like figure with poor social skills and a great interest in the macabre.

In more modern accounts, Medea is described as a cold, sombre and distant figure, some even describing her as dark and malevolent.
