The Fossil sea has few points of entry. Most connections from the subnivean are blocked with ice save for a few natural or maintained pathways, such as those burrowed out by native creaturs or built by sophontic hands. The largest connection is the moon pool docks in Tyrn-Cha.
These dark, ancient waters are home to such predators as zweeg worms and glacier-backed diapsids, both of which make it difficult to explore.
A salty halocline veils the deepest parts of the sea, preserving the bodies and bones of the dead creatures which sink to the bottom. A research station in Tyrn Cha sends drones down into the halocline to retrieve samples. To date, the fossil record goes back over eighty thousand years, and includes even sunken ships and now-extinct species.
