Very good question. Jungles are taking over a continent, so there is that. But there is also the growing steam-tech as well as the power of stories ...

Summer Camp 2026: Area of Focus

For Summer Camp 2026, my focus will be the stories of Eryndel.

Eryndel is being built as a companion world to a growing collection of short stories, novellas, and novels. Rather than attempting to document every corner of the setting at once, I want to use Summer Camp as an opportunity to bring more of those completed tales into World Anvil.

My goal is to create articles inspired directly by the stories themselves: locations readers have visited, folklore they've heard, characters they've met, magical traditions they've encountered, and historical events that shape the lives of the people within those narratives.

Whenever possible, I plan to use each prompt as a chance to expand something that already exists in a finished story. This approach helps me keep the world grounded in actual narrative rather than disconnected lore.

Of course, not every prompt will neatly fit an existing tale. When that happens, I plan to treat it as an opportunity to explore new corners of Eryndel, experiment with ideas, and simply have fun with the process.

In short, my focus is not a single kingdom, city, or magic system.

My focus is the stories themselves.

Because in Eryndel, every story is a thread, and together they form the Weave.

How does this focus interact with the rest of the world? It will allow readers to explore stories in a more interactive way.

Concepts I would like to explore: This is very broad, but to narrow it down some, I am really into folklore, fairytales, and the stories that shape the world. I plan on exploring the concept of how stories shape us.

Why did I choose this area of focus? Practicality, and it is also fun!! I enjoy world building, but this is the first time I have taken it this serious.

Week 3

---

This week's theme: Loss

When autumn comes around, leaves turn golden and fall—a symbol of loss, this week's theme! Loss can refer to death, but just like how trees don't die when they lose their leaves, this theme can be about so many other things! A lost language or culture, a forgotten relic, or a ritual honoring ancestors are also related to loss. Spend some time thinking about this theme and how it applies to your area of focus.

Assignment: Plan your writing time

If you have other things going on in your life—work, studies, family—, plan your worldbuilding schedule now. Summer Camp articles must be at least 300 words long, so spend some time thinking about how long it takes you to write this much.

I write daily from 3pm to 6pm. I have a solid routine that I have been building for awhile now. I try to schedule days to 'orbit' my project. Those are days I work on lore and other things connected to Eryndel, but the narrative writing takes a break. I have found this allows me to reset without detaching fully from the project.

Week 3 Hopschotch

Plan writing time, when will I write: Every day, 3pm -6pm, more on my days off.

Gather music or media to inspire you: I have a killer YouTube music playlist, and have been adding to it!!

Read a book to inspire you: I have been reading, just finished The Last Wish (The Witcher) and started Evermeet: The Island of Elves an older DnD novel.

Read an article from other AnvilItes: I have been exploring Elaqitan, by Blue Fairy 74

Go for a walk: I went shopping!!

Spend time in your favorite fictional world: I will be playing some Final Fantasy Tactics and reading Evermeet. I love both of those worlds.

What is your typical creative process?

What a question, honestly. I listen to music, walk, read, watch videos on writing and folklore. If I know what I'm writing toward, I'll research it first, watching or reading around the subject until something clicks.

Then I light a candle, set up a small statue, and clear my desk. Phone off. Discord off. For three hours, I work.

It is not always magical. In fact, it rarely is. But I show up and do something. I set daily word count goals, or project-related ones, and I look forward to what will become rather than dwelling on what isn't yet, or what may never be.

I took some creative liberty. For Eryndel it made more sense to take this opportunity to write about The Telling, what it is and why it is important to the overall narrative of the world.

Week 4

---

This week’s theme: Family

Winter is a cold season, but throughout many cultures this has created in-door cozy festivals and celebrations with family. Family doesn't have to be biological (what about found family?), and it can refer to a variety of different things! A family of plants or languages, tight-knit communities, pantheons... What do families look like in your area of focus, and which other meanings of "family" can you find in your world?

In Eryndel found family is a fairly common topic I explore.

Assignment: What's your goal as a worldbuilder?

Let's look beyond Summer Camp for a moment! Why are you a worldbuilder? What do you aim to do with the world you're creating?

Then, think about how Summer Camp will help you work towards this goal. This is a very important step to complete the challenge; while we can give you external motivations (prizes, badges, etc), only you can find your own inner motivation, which can often be much stronger than any prize.

This is meant to be an open world bible for people to explore once they have found my stories. Bits of deeper lore that make no sense on the page of tale.

I need to finish the Folkweave, I have been putting it off. I also should work on some secrets, timeline, and map.
