Covenfruit

High in the andes mountains you come upon a small stopping off point, a cave in which you can shelter from the winds. You head deep into the cave, where its warmer than the outside. As if by the hand of The Weaver herself, a fruit tree is waiting there for you. Its not anything you've ever seen, but you check your list of things not to eat, and its not on it. You shrug, your hunger overcoming much reason, and begin to sink your teeth into the juices of the fruit, whilst shoving the remainder into your backpack. You glance towards the back where there's a wall of ice, a bit odd, but not impossible given the climate around here. But something catches your eye in the ice, a figure. As you look deep within, you see skeletons, perhaps a vast army. you aren't squeamish. The skeletons don't scare you. What scares you is that you can feel the one who hasn't decomposed at all staring at you.

Covenfruit is not one of, but the rarest fruit that exists on Terra. It grows in the cold of the Andes, artificially made colder by actions of the Many-Faced one the fruit survives only by concentrated magic of coven, who's frozen form survives nearby, sustained only by the need to pass the title down.

Biological

Anatomy

The anatomy of the tree is similar to that of other trees in the region. It has a trunk with extending branches from that base, with roots that extend into the cave ground. The branches are more like a mix of coniferous and deciduous, with needles that are shed each year. During the spring those branches will be covered with flowers, which later fruit into Covenfruit.

Covenfruit itself is a small prickly and green fruit. The seeds are near the center. The fruit has been described as similar to an apple. The seeds themselves have an iridescent quality, and have a small amount of witchcraft magic within them, and are the actual source of its magic-enhancement.

The fruit itself

The fruit contains a large concentration of Coven energy, and is used by many witches as a boost to magical ability. The use is isolated to coven, and those who are not witches and have tried it described the taste as apple mixed with sand.

Growth

Covenfruit grows from a seed into a large tree.

The reproduction of Covenfruit is unknown, but if we are to make some assumptions, it may be similar to that of an apple tree. But perhaps we shouldn't make that assumption...

Fine, let me just... The growth cycle of a covenfruit tree is not unlike its ancestor the apple tree. The only existing species developed from the original apple seed via mutation. It then sprouted into a sapling which formed into the final tree, the species is unique due to this growth pattern.

Geographic

Habitat

The only habitat that Covenfruit has ever been known to grow in is a specific cave in the Alps. This is due to the magical energies of Coven that flow throughout the cave.

The unique feature of said cave, and what makes it the only place that can house this species is the Deity trapped within, namely Coven. This produces a unqie background magical radiation which allowed for the original mutation, sustains the species to this day. The species also requires the cold of the Alpine cave in order to grow, which is another contributing factor.

Surrounding region

The Andes mountains surround the home of this fruit. It is predominately a mountainous region with only a few major towns within. The surrounding ecosystem has been known to develop similar traits to the fruit, and have been seen to eat the fruit in order to boost those traits similar to human witches. As such small communities have developed nearby, keeping Covenfruit largely a secret.

Usage

Covenfruit is seen as sacred to traditional witches, and is often used in ceremony. The fruit is seen as a blessing or gift directly from the still-beating heart of Coven. The fruit is also often used in time of defense, or great strife, there have been a few instances of it being used as an aid in combat. And a few instances of it being used to create a punishment. Whatever its use the fruit is certainly rationed.
