Cadilon Returned!

Last time we met, there was a small problem facing Cadilon - a Lich had successfully opened a bleed to The Negative Energy Plane and started a Zombie Apocalypse!

Cities were lost, empires fell, and people hid in their homes, refusing to leave the safety of the walled cities.

325 years later the undead plague has started to subside and the brave have started to leave the safety of the cities to venture into the world again.

No one knows exactly what happened to the Lich or his undead army, and after 300 years of isolation, much has been lost in society as well. People tell stories about heroes of the past using spells unheard of today or wielding fabled weapons that are little more than myth. What's more, there are some that are convinced that even some religions have ceased to be and fear that even some gods are missing.

Is the undead epidemic finished? What survived in the ruins of the world? Is the world safe again?

No one knows for sure…

The Chronicles of Cadilon was one of the more ambitious and fun projects we ever did at The Deck Box (in my totally biased opinion!). It was a shared D&D world, where we had 10 or more games running in the same world every week. Each Dungeon Master (DM) would write their own stories and content within the world, and each week the world would change based on what happened. If a group found an ancient tomb it was added to the map for others to find. If a group failed to find the ancient artifact in that tomb it remained there for someone else. If a group upset the king by returning and trying to pass off a replica as the real ancient artifact there might be warrants out for their arrest!

The Chronicles of Cadilon started back in early 2019.  From the beginning I wanted to slowly roll out a larger world spanning story that would affect every game.  The story was a simple one: A Lich from The Negative Energy Plane found a way to come to Cadilon and let loose an undead, supernatural plague on the world.  The Lich first came to Cadilon and started doing some recon.  I asked DMs to start to have zombies as random encounters.  This was planned so the Lich would be revealed to the players in November/December of 2019 and he was going to have finished opening the bleed in February 2020 - and all this went according to plan!  Four groups banded together to stop him.  They searched for his phylactery, his hideout, and went together to fight him and close the bleed to save the world.

Turns out I can see the future, because we all know what happened in 2020.  Way to prophetic of me, right after I had the DMs announce the zombie plague - Covid happened.  Within a short number of weeks the plague from my D&D stories became real.  The world shut down, and it ended our shared D&D world.  I’ll admit I was a little devastated.  The shared world was such a cool idea and such a big undertaking and I had such an amazing team of DMs all working together that it was sad to see it stop.

Well, I am very happy to announce that we are starting D&D again at The Deck Box!  We will resume our games in a world that has survived a devastating undead plague, a world that has been locked up and closed down for decades, which means it is a world where there is mystery, ruins, and things to discover!

Welcome to the Chronicles of Cadilon Part 2!

What You Need to Know!

The Chronicles of Cadilon is The Deck Box's Dungeons and Dragon's World. Whenever I describe D&D to someone I always call it a cooperative storytelling game.  The whole idea behind it is a group of people telling a story and writing their own destiny.  The DM might be the narrator, but the players shape and mold the story through their choices and dice rolls.  If D&D is the Cooperative Storytelling game, then The Chronicles of Cadilon is the ultimate cooperative storytelling experience, as it is not just one group shaping the world through their stories, but every DM and every adventurer that plays!

We are using the 2024 Dungeons and Dragons Rules Set (or 5.5 if you prefer!). If you are interested in playing or DMing, click me! You can find all the information and links below!  Lore on the world, the gods, and the planes will be posted here, and as areas are discovered, created, or altered by you and others, the pages about them will be updated! DMs will write recaps for each session, so you can even come back to read about what happened in other games in the world!

Cadilon is the world that was - and memory can be a tricky thing. What was once unshakable truths are now little more than myth and fantasy. Gods have died, new ones have taken their place, and mapping this new world falls on you.

I look forward to adventuring with you!
