BUILD YOUR OWN WORLD Like what you see? Become the Master of your own Universe!

SC26 | Prep

For Summer Camp 2026, I decided to try something new. Inspired by Rin Garnett and their work on Su-mehr Qiamp, I made a new world that I will develop only during June and July. That world is Broken Husk, where you are now. Depending on what happens at the end of July, I may revisit this world next year.

Pledge

Most of my Summer Camp worldbuilding will be here, but Dankar is my backup world in case I'm not feeling inspired. Since I'm focusing on my story, I don't want to add too much to Dankar that won't fit. My aim is to use the prompts to build this world, and since it's mostly a blank slate, I doubt I'll be uninspired.
My actual goal, as always, is Copper, but this year, I put Silver on the pledge as my stretch goal. Will I get there? Only time will tell!

The Idea for Broken Husk

My idea for this world is to explore one mystery every Summer Camp (and maybe get closer to solving it). This way, a mystery can hopefully start and end in Summer Camp. This year's mystery will focus on the origins of the Scribbles and the person who wrote them.

Week 1: Love

Those who are fondly remembered will have eternal adoration. But is that really the same thing as love?
In times of isolation and loneliness, love becomes a valuable lifeline. Although, it will take many different forms. If one cannot get love by connecting with others, they can try to get love by creating a legacy to be remembered by.
In Broken Husk, isolation prevails. Thanks to certain policies and actions, communities have been fractured and people have been ignored. But connections can form anywhere, so long as there is someone who is willing to listen.

Create New Articles

Create some articles to get a feel for your world.

As you may have noticed, there isn't much written here. Over the next week or two, I'll write one or two articles to introduce the world a bit better.

World CSS

Review and update your world CSS and layout.

There's not much to review since I made the CSS yesterday. I'll keep tinkering with it, but so far, I'm happy with the result. Only thing I need is a world cover image and it should be good to go for the moment.

Week 2: Growth

The world of Broken Husk is quite stagnant, and it suits powerful people for it to remain that way. Despite their best attempts, the desire for information and knowledge has not yet been quashed. In fact, it grows each day, especially when new info comes to light. It should not fall to one organisation to control the flow of knowledge.

Area of Focus

Create an article about your area of focus.

My focus for this Summer Camp will be on the origins of the Scribbles, the writings that are found everywhere underneath the machine. Since they are found in lots of places, I can use the prompts to explore the world of Broken Husk through them. I was in the process of writing this article for Week 1, but I did it too slowly and Week 2 came. It does fit better here.

List of Concepts

I have a lot of ideas I'd love to explore in more detail, mainly the city-states, decoders and the government, which have big links to the Scribbles. But I've found that I usually end up not using my ideas when the prompts are actually revealed. So I'm not going to list them all in detail in case the prompts do not fit.

Week 3: Loss

With love also comes loss - important things can be taken as quickly as they are given. Sometimes, they can be taken by those who don't understand the importance of such things.
There is a lot of loss in Broken Husk, as things have been taken from others by the government without care. There is a loss of community and companionship, a loss of accurate information and identity losses. With community losses also come a loss of certain cultures and also a loss of people.

Writing Time

Plan your writing time

I estimate that most of my free time will be in the first 2 weeks of July, because I'll have some assignments due for university later in the month. But I do a lot of note-taking and brainstorming in Obsidian, so I think I can cut down on the amount of writing time by making some notes whenever inspiration strikes.

Music Inspiration

Gather music or other media to inspire you

Whenever I make a new project, I always make sure to make an inspiration playlist for it that I can listen to when making notes or worldbuilding. Sometimes, I make my own tunes for this purpose as well, although I have yet to make any for Broken Husk.
For Broken Husk, I also made a few Pinterest boards for each part of the world, and my main characters, to help with visualisation. Since the inside of the machine has multiple subregions to it, I wanted to get good visuals for inspiration.

Week 4: Family

Communities are found families and are very important in Broken Husk. However, most communities have been whittled down and suppressed, so people are more alone than ever.
While families can and should be happy and loving, some do not have their members' best interests at heart. Families can show the darker sides of human nature, and how people are willing to take advantage of others for their own comfort.

Assignments

This section will be quite short, since I answered quite a few of the questions in previous weeks. However, I will try to complete one or two optional prompts before Summer Camp starts for real. They are the best way I can experiment with the world and understand the basics before going into Summer Camp.

Optional Prompt

Write a Myth that reveals the "true" meaning of family.

Nnie's Camp Chill Guidelines

- Remember the prompts are suggestions, not requirements.

- Write what you're passionate about, leave what you aren't.

- Relax when you feel tired.

- Fight off any pesky brain-squitos trying to make you doubt your work.

- Don't abandon your non-summercamp goals! Write that article you're itching to write, even if it doesn't fit any prompts.
