Spice

Spice is a volatile powder used solely for combustion, prized for its reliability and destructive force. It is produced when raw dracothyne—a dull, naturally occurring mineral found in mountain ranges—is subjected dragons' breath. This process fractures the stone’s internal structure and converts it into a fine, highly reactive substance capable of rapid ignition. On its own, dracothyne is worthless; once transformed into spice, it becomes one of the most strategically important materials in the world.

Spice is used to power cannons, bombards, mining charges, and other explosive devices, shaping the outcome of sieges, naval warfare, and large-scale construction. Its value lies not in magic or alchemy, but in scale—spice allows a single spark to unleash force that would otherwise require enormous manpower. Because it is difficult to locate, dangerous to manufacture, and costly to transport safely, control of spice production and trade is controlled by only the most powerful and stable governments. And control of the spice trade will often determine which nations can fortify cities, dominate seas, and wage war effectively.
