Red Hoods

The Red Hoods (Coquelicot) are an organized ethnoreligious group descended from the Nemeta. They are genetically related to the Arkadian people, and almost the same, except they are all infecund or infertile. The only people they are able to procreate with are Uidugenon. They are often seen with the Dusios, who are a subclade of Uidugenoi local to Penumbria. Thus, this group often make pilgrimages to Penumbria to retire or start a mission.

Brief Description

The Red Hoods are considered interdimensional beings due to the fact they can travel beyond the Briar Wall and other such time/space rifts. However they typically do not have the physical strength to return, as adjusting to a climate a second time can be life-threatening due to their liminal nature.

They are often seen with ghostly animals, who are thought to be silica-based and traded from Caloris, particularly Ulkwa, the sun-wolves, Carnovia, the dust-deer, and Sheena, the antlered hare.

Public Agenda

The Red Hoods work as midwives, folk healers, psychopomps, and priests. They serve the God Soran Leukaios, son of Turmes and Sulis, who has been omitted from a lot of modern Arkadianism. They offer their services for free, but are usually paid in kind as to not offend Soran Leukaios.

They find much of their popularity among the Umbrians, as they are usually followers of Soran Leukaios or a similar local deity. They rarely enter any form of government and remain neutral in political issues so long as they don't offend their Three Sacred Laws - Honor the Gods, Do No Evil, Maintain Your Peace. How they decide what is evil and what is true is a mystery to outsiders.

They are also heavily involved with trade between the different worlds, as they are on decent terms with most of the people, including the Antumbrians who benefit from their medical care and familiarity with Uidugenoi.

They carry dowsing wands, which are forked staves made of ash or hazelwood. They can detect carbon life forms.

Uniform/Costume

They are known by their red cloak and pointed cap, adorned with wings. Typically their uniform consists of a tunic and pants, or a belted dress. Some members who settle together in areas, have developed their own modifications to fit in with the local culture. They tend to like simple striped or checkered fabric patterns.

Jewelry. Items they Carry

They typically have a gold clasp for their cloak, either in the shape of a spiral, a harp, or a bow and arrow. These indicate a rank, according to them, but no outsider knows what they mean. As protection, they wear iron bracelets to repel the Uidugenoi's unwanted advances, and a silver crescent pendant to protect their heart. Many of the high ranking ones will have gold torcs, lower ranking or younger will have iron or something else. Those who marry a Dusioi in Umbria are given a diamond torc.

They carry antimony to clean and bless their jewelry. They have a portable medical kit and tend to travel light. They will usually have water, prisms, and other protective devices if they get attacked while traveling alone, but it's rumoured some of them have projectiles made of the same energy as the Briar Wall.

Crest/Flag

Their symbol is a triad of hooded figures, meant to represent the Red Hoods. They are sometimes standing alone, but other time are holding food, weapons, and a sceptre. Sometimes this is surrounded by a border of knotwork.

Hidden Agenda

The Red Hoods are said to be the progenitors of the Sisters of Rot, who are also from the same species but have a lot of genetic issues and low fertility. The Red Hoods also claim to be an oral culture which is why they never write anything down, and thus they stay out of political affairs beyond their understanding. However, the Red Hoods do write things down, and have been recording everything for years somewhere that can't be found. They use this information to bring about a doomsday prophecy.
