Culture

Foods & Cuisine

They eat a lot of eels, and Morveki Eeels are a specialty item outside of Penumbria where they are much, much harder to find. They also eat a lot of fish in general.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

On the New Year of their calendar, or on particular days (to do with something astrological), it is common for couples to get married or become engaged. Many villages will hold parties and festivals where an effort is made to pair up unmarried suitors and negotiate between families. They then have until the next season to get married, typically there is then followed by a "season of weddings". The suitors will often dress up as characters from folktales or history who they feel they resemble or whose traits they admire, as a way to introduce themselves.

Common Taboos

They do not eat land animals who they see as sacred - they see fish as the bountry of Morvarc'h and leave offerings in thanks whenever they fish.

Common Myths and Legends

Morvarc'h, the giant water horse who feeds their crater state, is said to be the working animal belonging to the progenitor of the Penumbrians, who Morveki refer to as Manavydan. His animals were frozen in ice at the end of the warrior's life, whereas his wife and her entourage became their guardians. They are typically known as Saints, and Morvek's patron saint is Modron.
