Exostone
Exostones are thermochromic stones that react to the user's body temperature by changing colour. They are particularly common in Penumbria, and while they are used for many purposes they have become associated with low-level Exomancy. While it differs from the exomancy used by the military, it is often lumped in together with folk beliefs about the exosphere. High exomancy to low exomancy is similar to the difference between astronomy and astrology, often lumped in together but quite distinct.
Thus, exomancy as a divination and fortune-telling system has become a common hobby for all ages and walks of life in Penumbria. Exostones purport many beliefs depending on where they are purchased from. They are often sold as souvenirs in places like Everybody's Mall, sometimes even as luxury jewellery. In the Crater States, they will claim to tell someone's "alignment" on the electromagnetic spectrum, what elemental affinity they have, which family they will marry into, and all sorts of things.
The technology was first introduced to the public by L.U.N.E.D, but the materials are crafted and were discovered by Umbrians living in the caverns between the Crater States. So although L.U.N.E.D popularized its use, it is an Umbrian aesthetic. Exostones are made from various compositions of thermochromic materials rather than being a material themselves, though folk beliefs that they exist in raw form permeate the Crater States.
On an industrial level, the Watchers contain exostone, and their display changes colour depending on the weather pattern and temperature. Rather than checking a thermometer, Penumbrians will look at the eyes of the Watchers and judge the heat and humidity by the colour of the stone.
Exostones are also used in indoor gardening, making them common in Bacco's Grove locations but also in greenhouses and nursuries. They're believed to tell the health of the plants, or predict their yield, which are also folk beliefs. Thus, exostones find their way from industrial use to hobby items (many people collect them), to being magiferous devices.
