Faulgorm
The legend of Faulgorm is known by every child on the Andeau peninsula and beyond. This four legged creature that looks like a wild fox with shaggy coat coloured from orange, to black and accents of white/gray. It moves like every other mammal but when aggregated it will grow in size, start walking on two legs, strikes out his claws and bares his fangs. It only shows himself to children uptill the age of 9 years old. So the story goes.
When more of the land got discovered, and people settled across all of the peninsula the people started to realize that such creature did not exist. If it did, there has never been found any evidence of it. Even a Seeker of the Pulse, who searched for all kind of animals and monsters, never found anything that pointed in the direction of the existence of Faulgorm.
Origin
The tale is old as time and has its heritage from when a lot of the lands were rough, undiscovered and hardly traversable. When you travelled across country in the dark, more often then once you would be attacked by natural predators of de Splijt and surroundings. If you survived the attack you would be one of the lucky ones. Over the years tales began to spread of a monster that looked like an animal but walked on two legs, speaking the common tongue, smarter than most if not all other animals.
Bedtime stories
Now parents use Faulgorm as a bedtime story to tell their children. Telling them that Faulgorm traverses the land in search of juicy children. From the legend it once was it shifted to a functional lie to make sure the children do not wander to far from home. Ensuring they're always home before de dark sets in. And once a year, they celebrate another year of surviving the hunt of Faulgorm.
