Dima
A large inland country with cold, harsh mountains and very little rain. Constantly at war with a neighbor after a haggling deal gone wrong because of a mistranslated word.
Seriously, that's all it was. A bazillion years ago (more like two thousand-ish), a couple of dwaves were dealing with each other with a minor language barrier, and the back-and-forth got screwed up when a third party got involved and offered to translate, but couldn't speak the other's language either.
And ended up frustrating the guy so completely that he decided to give up, go home, and get someone who actually did speak both languages.
Only they misunderstood, thought he was giving up, going home, and was never going to talk to them again, and they chased him down and he took it as aggression and beat the shit out of both of them and then they went home and got their friends, who went and beat the shit out of him and his bar buddies, who retaliated by refusing to make anymore dealings with them on territory, trade, markets, or anything else, and talked their friends into refusing the business and companionship as well....
And this escalated.
Janayihan, the other part of this disagreement, did the same, of course, and as the alliances have spread, the original contention is all but forgotten. The nationalism has been... uh... "good" for the locals, but the borders are a mess, and the only reason it's not worse is because no one wants to be in that mountain range anyway.
The few people in the country are likely to be Subterranean Dwarves or Sky Dwarves, living underground or at a 'vent' of underground Dwarves; Minotaurs in their valley-dwellings, or Goliaths on carved out mountainsides.
