Venta
Located in northwestern Graylia, Venta is one of the largest port cities on the continent of Eulan. Thanks to its position along the coast of the Great Rift, Venta has grown into not just a thriving center of trade and travel, nut also a major launching point for numerous expeditions into the unexplored lands to the south, even being home to one of the largest branches of the Skyseekers guild on the continent. Between the wealth brought into the city, as well as the long and storied history of exploration associated with it, Venta continues to draw in adventurous souls looking to make a name for themselves.
Demographics
The Arun make up the vast majority of the population of Venta, most of them being of Graylian descent, though its position as a major trade port has seen a great deal of mingling with the other kingdoms of Eulan. Among its inhabitants, the largest industries practiced within the city are shipbuilding, merchantry, and fishing, and there's a large industry built around supporting the exploration of the southern reaches of the world.
Government
Venta is overseen by the local governor, who themselves ultimately answer to the authority of the Graylian monarch. Most of the taxes collected from within the city go towards supporting its naval industries and infrastructure, including the docks and shipyards, as well as various related industries related to the naval industry, such as markets and inns.
Defences
The city of Venta has three gates, which can be locked during times of crisis, and the local guard are capable of acting as a militia in defence of the city. The local Airship fleet can be quickly deployed for naval combat, and is supported by cannons along the coastline.
Industry & Trade
The bulk of Ventas industry comes from the Cloudsea, with the largest industry being the expeditions into the Broken Band launched from here, followed by fishing and trawling in the rift, constructing and repairing medium and small airships, and naval trade along the coast.
Infrastructure
Venta possesses a well-developed naval infrastructure, including a large harbour capable of supporting medium and small sized ships, shipyards for constructing and repairing airships, and multiple warehouses for storing materials and goods. The city also has a well-maintained network of roads running through it.
Districts
Harbour District
Dominating much of the western section of the city, the harbour district is home to the cities harbours and shipyards. It's also where the guildhall of the local branch of the Skyseekers is located.
Residential District
Taking up much of the eastern section of the city, the residential distric holds the majority of the cities residential homes.
Outer City
Spanning the eastern, northeastern, and southeastern lands outside of the city walls, the outer city is considered to be the place of residence for many of the cities common folk, and contains much of of its agriculture.
Market District
Located in the northern section of the city, the market district contains many of the shops, eateries, and inns of the city.
Inner City
Located in the southern section of the city, the Inner city is the location of the city hall, the hall of justice, and a number of academies and theatres, and serves as the center of leadership within the city.
Assets
Venta possesses a large harbour and fleet, both of which are vital for its industry and defence. It's location along the coast also gives it access to a wide variety of resources that can only be found in the Cloudsea.
Guilds and Factions
Skyseekers: While the Skyseekers as a whole are highly respected throughout Altera as the premier explorers guild, the Ventan Branch holds a position of especially high standing within both the organisation, as well as the common folk of Altera. The Ventan branch of the Skyseekers is responsible for heading many of the expeditions into the Broken Band and beyond, and has been home to some of the most renowned members of the organisation.
Points of interest
Skyseekers Guildhall: The base of operations of the Skyseekers within the city. Located near the harbour, the Guildhall is a popular destination for tourists, as well as those seeking to join the Skyseekers.
Tourism
As one of the largest port cities on the continent of Aelor, Venta draws in visitors from all across the continent from all walks of life, from merchants to aspiring Skyseeker recruits.
Architecture
The buildings of Venta are constructed from a mixture of wood and stone. Additionally, much of the harbour and its attached structures are built into the side of the nearby cliff.
Geography
The city of Venta is built on the coast, where the nearby plains give way to sheer cliffs that drop into the Cloudsea.
