Singularity

Deep within Hyperdimensional Space, there exists an esoteric object known only as Singularity. This object is responsible for the continuous cycling of the ages throughout the entire universe.

Manifestation

Singularity is much like a black hole. It is a super-dense object which pulls other objects in, but which even light cannot escape. In the vast, colorful landscape of Hyperdimensional Space, Singularity is acutely noticeable as a hole punched into the veil of reality, as well as the way reality itself seems to bend around it.

As one gets closer to Singularity, time slows down, and one's sense of space begins to distort. From the inside, it will seem as if everything outside the hole is moving much faster and more chaotically than normal.

Once one crosses Singularity's event horizon, light can no longer be seen nor felt. Mercifully, most beings die at this point. However, Wendigoes and Fenghuangs can survive both Hyperdimensional Space and the effects of Singularity.

For these beings, all sense of time and space will cease. Every moment will be as if it were the first when they crossed the event horizon. They will be endlessly trapped within a pitch-black void, fighting with neither avail nor rest to extract themselves from it.

As bad as this is, their time inside Singularity is not infinite. Beings trapped inside Singularity are freed whenever a new cycle of ages begins (see below for more information).

Localization

Fortunately, one cannot directly encounter Singularity unless one is traveling through Hyperdimensional Space. However, even on this plane, Singularity plays a large role in the cycling of the ages (see below).

The Cycle of the Ages

Singularity plays a direct role in the cyclical nature of time and space. It is both the birthplace and dying-place of everything in the universe.

Birth and Expansion

It is understood that, at the beginning of time, Singularity held all the Anima and matter the universe would ever possess. Strained to its limit, singularity erupted, creating the Fenghuangs in the process. Thus began what is now referred to as the Age of Fire.

The Age of Fire

In the Age of Fire, the universe is expanding, propelled outward by the force from Singularity's eruption. During this period, life begins to rise. Stars flicker to life, planets align, and Anima takes shape all across the universe.

The Age of Fire is a prosperous one, filled with hope and possibility for all beings. At some point, the universe stops expanding and begins to contract back towards Singularity. This is what begins the Age of Ice.

The Age of Ice

In the Age of Ice, the universe, drawn by Singularity's force of gravity, begins to inch back towards it. Slowly but surely, planets, galaxies, celestial bodies of all kinds are drawn into Singularity, trapping Anima and killing whatever life was within.

While the Age of Fire is marked by prosperity, the Age of Ice is marked by scarcity and uncertainty. As one's planet is drawn towards Singularity, living conditions on that planet will deteriorate increasingly until the planet is pulled beyond the event horizon and destroyed.

Death and Rebirth

As apocalyptic as it is, the eventual destruction of the universe is not as permanent as it seems. After some time, Singularity will erupt again, rebuilding the universe anew. Thus will begin a new Age of Fire.

It should be understood that time in Hyperdimensional Space is cyclical, not linear. This continuous cycling is accepted as the will of Anima, not the work of some great evil. There is very little one can do to stop it, and attempting to do so can create a Time Paradox or worse.
