Faun
Fauns, otherwise known as satyrs, are half-human, half-ungulate faeries. Taking many forms, their natures can range from fun-loving and carefree to hard-working and serious.
Basic Information
Anatomy
There are three main races of fauns: caprine fauns, ovine fauns, and cervine fauns.
Caprine Fauns
Ovine Fauns
Cervine Fauns
Goat-like fauns. They tend to live equally in forests and in grasslands. The Nursery Rhyme District is home to many of them.
Sheep-like fauns. They tend to live in open fields and grassy areas such as Wheat Country.
Deer-like fauns. They are commonly found in densely wooded lands like The Emerald Woodland.
For all races, both male and female fauns possess horns/antlers, though those of male satyrs are bigger than those of females.
Genetics and Reproduction
Fauns of all races give birth to one young at a time. While they can raise their offspring at any time of year, they most often give birth in the months of Glaknißan and Tempanißan.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Fauns are obligate herbivores. Their diet consists mostly of vegetables, but they enjoy fruit as well. Many are particularly fond of apples and pumpkins.
Behaviour
Fauns are as varied in their personalities as humans are. Many are the carefree beings human legends paint them as. However, just as many manage to keep jobs and even manage businesses and estates.
Fauns generally tend to be somewhat distrusting of humans. This may be a modern development, as they were among the races most horrified by the humans' development of nuclear weapons during The War of the Wendigoes.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Ovine fauns can earn some extra money by selling their wool. Since they do not require regular shearing like domestic sheep do, this is not mandatory for their health.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Fauns are found all over Altairus, but they are most commonly found on the continents of Pandora and Heraklea. Most live in the rural areas of these two continents, such as the Nursery Rhyme District, The Emerald Woodland, and Wheat Country.
Average Intelligence
Fauns are sapient. They play valuable roles in the societies they are part of.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Fauns of all kinds are good at climbing mountains. Their hooves are sensitive to small changes in terrain, and their agility allows them to scale challenging ground that few other beings can traverse.
Civilization and Culture
Relationship Ideals
Despite perceptions, many fauns are monogamous. Cervine fauns and caprine fauns are more likely to have multiple partners, but this is not common.
Average Technological Level
Fauns are not very technologically advanced. However, they are quite skilled in Earth magic, which more than makes up for this lack.
Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals
Fauns participate in the cultural festivals in the lands they inhabit. It is speculated that they were the ones who started the Stone Soup Ritual and the Day of Shameless Gluttony in the Nursery Rhyme District.
