Fire Fruit
A cullinary treat that grows in the most inhospitable areas of the Sossa Desert and originating from the Elemental Plane of Fire this invasive species has been found to be expanding its reach beyond the fire plane into the surrounding desert. Initially it was brought over by the Fire Salamanders though trades and the locals tried planting the seeds and found them very willing to grow in the areas round the Soarsing Oasis. The fruit grows on trees much like that of other citrus plants and is shaped a bit like a pear which is flame shaped and red in color hence its name. The skin is edible and the interior is divided into juice cell segments like citrus fruit. The taste sweet and sharp due to the citric acid but there is also a bit of subtile heat to the fruit as well.
Basic Information
Genetics and Reproduction
The seeds from the Fire Fruit will grow into short trees that can produce fire blossom flowers which later produces the Fire Fruit. It takes a tree five years to grow until it can produce fruit. Once mature a tree can produce fruit in about four to nine months.
Growth Rate & Stages
Shoots sprout out of the ground and over two years it grows to a size of about three to five feet in height. Flower blossoms form after the three to five mark and signal the beginning of fruit production. With the pollination of the flowers the fruit will form. As the tree matures it doesn't slow down fruit production and can produce fruit for several decades.
Ecology and Habitats
Fire Fruit trees grow wherever it is hot the soil acidic and some moisture but not too much. The trees will not survive winter conditions so would need to be sheltered in a greenhouse if they are grown outside of the region.
Origin/Ancestry
Believed to be related either a pear or citrus.
