Essillion is the last major Human city still left on Starhelm. For over 1000 years there were two, following the destruction of Starhelm City and the Fractioning. Avandar was on the west coast, shorn from the mainland by the blast, and Essillion was largely protected by the Barrier Guard of Denethen. Essillion holds to deep tradition and history, though now it is starting to embrace a new vision of what that means.
Carved into the mountain hollow on the northern part of the Barrier Guard, the mines of Essillion were gifted by the Dwarves to the Humans over 1400 years ago. The city of Essillion has grown eastward from the mines, even extending to the eastern side of the Hollow. Many farms dot the countryside as well as some beyond the mountains that feed the city and the surrounding villages. Patrols from Essillion ensure that the surrounding lands are well protected. In addition, the fair friends Essillion enjoys include the Dwarves and Halflings from ages past and the Elves of Aspenshield. The city of Hollow’s Point protects the northern villages as much as Essillion does by virtue of their mercenary army.
Recent events have changed the face of Starhelm, and Essillion in particular. The Goblin Invasion of Essillion and its subsequent liberation by Ryan Starshield has provided a new opportunity for rebirth and regrowth, not only in the soil and structures, but in the political landscape of the city. Ruled now by King Ryan, formerly known as the Roving Prince, a new Council of Essillion has formed, bringing it with it new ideas, new faces, and new opportunities.
The people of Essillion are still relatively happy and secure in their mountain home, though their recent occupation by the Goblins has left some more wary than they have ever been. They still enjoy the riches of the mines that make up the entire western side of their city. Gold, silver, iron, rare gems, and most notably Kingsmetal (electrum), which is not found in most other places on Starhelm.
The future is wide open for Essillion to reshape its people, traditions, borders, and reputation.
