Mana Depletion
Medically known as Hypodunamia, Mana Depletion is the condition of having little to no purified Mana within the Mana Pool, and thus having little or no ability to cast spells. It is considered a relatively common condition, as it occurs through the natural depletion of Mana in the Pool through spellcasting. When viewed by Enhanced Truesight, or by the use of specialist spells which are only available to those of certain Vocational Paths, Mana Depletion shows the Mana Pool as a dim glow, much fainter than when it is full.
Mana Depletion is typically considered a benign and expected condition, particularly among adventuring spellcasters and Experimental Magecrafters, and is often a desired condition for the treatment of other Mana-Specific Conditions, such as Mana Bloat. However, Mana Depletion can also be a sign of other underlying issues, such as Dunamostaxis (Mana Leakage) or Dunamostasis of the Prevesical Dunamivascular System (Mana Cessation before the Mana Pool).
A very common Dunamic Condition, Mana Depletion is often compared to tiredness or hunger in its normalcy, and everyone with a Mana Pool is expected to experience it at some point in their lives, even if they do not regularly cast a lot of high Tier spells. Managing and avoiding Mana Depletion is relatively simple so long as the spellcaster remains aware of their own body and limitations, though repeated instances of Mana Depletion can often cause, or be caused by, other more serious conditions and warrant intervention by a Medical Dunamic Specialist.
Causes
Mana Depletion is caused by the Mana Pool completely emptying of purified Mana. This itself is typically caused by excessive spellcasting, encountering Mana-Draining affects, or by other Dunamic Conditions that expel or leak Mana.
Symptoms
The most obvious and prominent symptom of Mana Depletion is the inability to cast spells other than Cantrips (which utilise Surface Mana from the Innate System) and Innate Abilities (which utilise a separate pool of Mana to regular Spellcasting). Other symptoms of Mana Depletion can vary from person to person, but often include a sensation of emptiness or loss, dizziness, feeling faint, tiredness, limbs feeling heavy, and mild headaches.
Mana Depletion symptoms after heavy use of magic in a short time frame can often feel more pronounced than those of the same condition after the gradual release of Mana from the Mana Pool.
Treatment
Mana Depletion typically goes away on its own with rest, allowing the Mana Pool time to refill. It can also be treated with Mana Potions, which replenish the Pool without the wait.
Prognosis
Mana Depletion typically goes away on its own with rest of at least 8 hours, though 12 hours is often recommended for more severe symptoms. It is not fatal on its own, but can be a sign of other conditions which are more life-threatening.
Sequela
Mana Depletion rarely leads to any long-lasting complications as a result of the condition itself, though it can cause or be caused by other Mana-Specific Conditions which may lead to further complications. These conditions can include Dunamostaxis, Dunamostasis, Dunamic Embolisms, or in extreme cases, Vesicanecrosis.
