Craft a bright new world, in Ayun Sovos!

Field Buddies

This article was created as an entry for a Summer Camp prompt! That means this article may be a rough draft, incomplete, or may not fully align with the world's lore. If you want to see this developed in the future, let me know!

I've taken a bit of a nibble out of every flower in the whole bouquet. It's not that I didn't trust her! Goodness, no. It's just every sweet little bite made me feel a new burst of joy, and I feel like my heart is full to bursting now!
— A much-loved friend
This is a tradition commonly practiced in Brightfield, showing appreciation to close friends and loved ones of a platonic variety.

Friends Forever!

Do you ever just wish you could give your friends a gift to show just how much you love and appreciate them? Gift-giving is a much-loved practice already, especially with Iverra's flower culture, but one particular flower has stood out as the favorite symbol for the love and appreciation of a friend: Field violets!

The Greatest Adventure

Lots of folks describe friendship as the greatest adventure there ever was! The title is shared with plenty of other things, sure, like romance and the joy of fishing, but few will argue with the delight of friendship being an adventure worth celebrating. Coined by a band of adventurers long ago, "field buddies" are the closest friend's you've got. You'll be at their side in the field of battle, and you'll lay on a blanket in the middle of a field watching the stars together. Either way, you're having the best time ever. The flower-gifting tradition was unrelated to the group, but "field" violets felt just right for a "field" buddy!

Bitter//Sweet Staples

These small, unassuming flowers are common in Brightfield, sprinkled generously across its many fields, grasses, and unturned meadows. Their characteristic purple cuts through the soft green grasses, making them easy to spot, and they're an absolute breeze to pick! They may be simple flowers, as well, but they're undeniably lovely to receive and display.
The trouble with field violets, as many of Iverra's bakers and tea makers can tell you, is that the common varieties you'll see scattered all across the land are most often quite bitter. Normally, the taste of a flower is far from a concern when it comes to gifting bouquets and cute little arrangements, but this traditional friendship-affirming gift isn't just about showing up with appearances — it's about putting in the effort.
Handing a friend a bouquet of field violets that are all from a bitter patch is really not the best look. While giving out violets doesn't always have to follow this tradition, participating in it without going the extra mile can tell a friend that you don't think they're worth the effort of finding the sweet flowers, and it can sure sting!

That opening quote was the most adorable thing I've read today Line I thought I was going to explode my goodness!

This is adorable. I love the sweet/bitter angle.

"like romance and the joy of fishing" is a delightful and unexpected juxtaposition and I just adore it.
