Way of Strings

Monk

Level 3: Ki String Technique

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can weave your ki into thin strings that act as extensions of your body. You gain a new attack that you can use in place of any Unarmed Strike or Monk weapon attack. This counts as a melee attack with which you are proficient, and you use Dexterity for its attack and damage rolls. The attack has a reach of 5 feet. When you make the attack, you may reduce your movement speed for the turn by an amount up to your Unarmored Movement bonus. The attack's reach increases by an equal amount. Whenever you hit a creature with this attack, choose one of the following effects:   Cutting Strings. The target takes slashing damage equal to your Martial Arts die plus your Dexterity modifier. This damage counts as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.   Binding Strings. If the target is Large or smaller, it must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw against your Focus Save DC or become Grappled by your strings. You can use Binding Strings only once per turn unless you spend 1 Focus Point to use it again.

Level 6: Spider's Silk

You gain a climb speed equal to your walking speed. You can move up, down, and across vertical surfaces and upside down along ceilings while leaving one hand free. Additionally, moving a creature Grappled by your Ki String Technique does not reduce your speed.

Level 11: Binding Threads

Immediately after a creature becomes Grappled by your Ki String Technique, you can choose one of the following effects:   Pull. You pull the creature in a straight line toward you to any unoccupied space of your choice within the reach of your strings.   Restrict. You spend 2 Focus Point. The creature is no longer Grappled and instead becomes Restrained until the start of your next turn.   Puppet Strings. You spend a number of Focus Points equal to the creature's Challenge Rating (minimum 1). The creature must make a Wisdom saving throw against your Focus Save DC. On a failed save, you control its movement, action, bonus action, and reaction until the end of its next turn. After the effect ends, the creature is no longer Grappled.

Level 17: Soul Spindle

Your strings no longer bind merely the body—they bind the soul itself. When you use your Ki String Technique to Grapple a creature, the creature instead gains the Bound condition while it remains Grappled by your strings. At the start of each of the Bound creature's turns, it takes force damage equal to two rolls of your Martial Arts die. The Bound condition ends immediately if the creature is no longer Grappled by your strings.
