Background: Scion of a Fallen House
Nyssara Velkyn was born into the fractured remnants of a noble house deep within the Underdarks north in Asra'Kun. House Velkyn was among the seven great powers, it endured through cunning, quiet influence, and an unwavering willingness to do what others would not. Nyssara was raised not with affection, but with expectation—trained in subterfuge, deception, and the art of surviving one’s own kin.
Her mother, Matron Serelyth Velkyn, ruled with a cold, calculating hand, while her elder brother, Drathir, was groomed as heir—a ruthless prodigy who saw Nyssara as both rival and tool. Among the few she trusted was Vhaelin T’sarran, a weapons master who taught her that precision mattered more than strength, and that hesitation was a death sentence.
The end came not with a war, but with a whisper.
House Velkyn was marked for annihilation during a political purge orchestrated by a rival house seeking favor with greater powers. Assassins infiltrated their stronghold, allies turned traitor, and the banners of Velkyn burned in the dark. Nyssara saw the tide turn long before the others—saw the subtle signs of betrayal in the way servants avoided eye contact, in the silence of missing guards.
So she did the unthinkable.
When the final assault came, Nyssara did not stand with her blood. She slipped through the chaos, offering her knowledge of Velkyn defenses to their enemies in exchange for her life. Some would call it cowardice. In the Underdark, it was simply survival.
She watched her house fall from the shadows she had always known best.
Now, Nyssara walks the surface world—a place of blinding light and naive morality that she finds equal parts amusing and exploitable. She has built a reputation under many names: a broker of secrets, a thief of relics, an unseen blade for those who can afford her price.
Among her few tenuous connections:
Kareth Voss, a human information dealer who operates out of a bustling port city. He trades in rumors, coded messages, and blackmail, and while he trusts no one, he respects Nyssara’s efficiency. Their partnership is strictly transactional—yet he has saved her life once, and she has not forgotten it.
Lirael Duskryn, a surface-born drow exile who believes Nyssara is capable of redemption. Lirael offers safe haven and guidance, though Nyssara views her ideals as dangerously soft. Still, she occasionally accepts her help—if only because it’s useful.
Brannik Stonehand, a grizzled dwarf relic hunter who once crossed blades with Nyssara over an ancient artifact. Neither won that fight, and since then, they’ve developed a begrudging respect… and a tendency to end up on opposite sides of the same job.
Despite her growing influence, Nyssara has never forgotten what was taken from her—or what she chose to abandon.
Her goal is not revenge.
It is reclamation.
She will rebuild House Velkyn—not as it was, but as something far more dangerous. Not bound by tradition or loyalty, but by fear, leverage, and absolute control. Where others rely on bloodlines, she will forge a house of shadows, bound together by secrets no one can afford to betray.
And this time, when the knives come out in the dark—
She will be the one holding them.
