Thazar Ironborn entered life in 302 ED, in a dwarven hold to the north of what would become the Capsan Empire, nestled below Mount Birnwehr. He knew a peaceful first decade of life in its warm holds, enjoying the comforts of Clan and hearth. Until the hold fell to a Goblin horde. Driven out, the Ironborn Clan and the rest of the Thanesworn settled on the southern side of the mountain, a place now called Vremhold.
He came of age laboring in this pale shadow of the Clan’s former glory, doing all he could alongside his kin to rebuild, re-arm, and eventually to reclaim their home. As they labored, word of the Empire’s expansion would occasionally reach them, Thazar was impressed by what what the united folk of the heartland could accomplish within the span of his life so far, it gave him hope for his own people’s plans. Upon learning that the Empire’s 5th Legion suffered a great loss at the hands of the same horde that assaulted the Thanesworn, he could not help but feel an odd kinship for them.
Thazar would have likely proceeded on the path of a miner and foreman, had a chance discovery in a deep fissure not changed him . . . it left his mind altered, opened to things beyond the material reality. He prayed and sacrificed to Moradin, but no relief came. Eventually, he could no longer his the change, and he feared exile. Thankfully, a solution came from a proposal amid the Thanesworn to seek allies in their war to Reclaim the Old Home.
Thazar Ironborn volunteered at once, and in the late fall of 57 AC he made for the Imperial settlement of Moonhome seeking to forge the ties his clan desired.
