The Bonding

A ritual honoring The Weaver of Threads, the Bonding happens every day in the large cities of Ouvezia. Temples in smaller places with less people and available goods typically celebrate the Bonding at a lower frequency, but they still celebrate it.   As much a means of worship as a meal, everyone is expected to give something back to the goddess, and regularly, nobles give much more than they would pay for a meal, no matter how lavish. This is because they understand the importance of community, of sharing, but also because they are grateful for the Weaver watching out for Ouvezia and for Her continuous work in safeguarding the nation. This makes Ouvezia one of the few places where if you meet another Ouvezian while traveling, you will invite them for food or more, and you will look out for each other. Interestingly enough, this courtesy does extend to strangers who have won the trust of Ouvezians. Typically signified by giving a trinket dedicated to the Star-Treader, this marks strangers and a stranger among friends, like the Starry Watcher himself is among the Ouvezian pantheon.   Bonding Feasts are announced in the sacred marks of the old Ouvezian Spirits, marks that are rarely used outside of temples or familial shrines, as they are considered cherished secrets. Only for Bonding Feasts are they used and pronounced publically. Their pronunciation comes easy with the blessings of the pantheon, but whoever tries to use those words without being blessed hopelessly butchers them. This helps weed out strangers that try to weasel into places they are not welcome, and the Weaver is very resolute about this. Since She is also the Patron of song and wordcraft, trying to sully Her rituals may result in the offender being struck mute for a time after trying to pronounce the sacred words.   Attending a feast begins with you approaching the priestess at the door. They will greet you with the sacred greeting, and wait for you to reply appropriately. Then you will offer some coin - how much is entirely up to you and does not influence who you are seated with or what you eat. Sometimes, if the amount is much larger or smaller than your attire may have hinted at, there may be some expression of surprise, even though the priestesses are not supposed to pay the amount any mind. Your eventual seat is usually determined by the goddess who guards hte priestess in where to place you, and your food will largely be the same as everyone else - though of course this depends on availability. Thanks to the godess' presence, however, it will certainly be something you will enjoy eating.   You will almost certainly be seated with pepople you don't or barely know, though there have been instances of enemies being seated together. This is always a sign from the godess to talk things out, and only happens on tables of two, to avoid awkwardness or social pressure in the process. Another instance of seating two people is if the other person is meant to be your partner in something. Sometimes, this means marriage, sometimes more mundanely a craft collaboration or a trade deal. No pairing, however, is accidental during a Bonding Feast, and the act of making conversation to a stranger over a shared meal is considered a strong act of worship in this context.
