Decadence

It was a bit more satisfying than it should have been when he came down with a harrowing illness.
— Owl

One of the Owls favored tactics for petty revenge, Decadence is a fruit, as it seems. It is a fruit that is beautiful, yet not rare enough to seem amiss. But there is one thing that is decidedly out of the ordinary - it is toxic to the taste.

Varying Levels of Poison

Decadence is not something meant to incite warfare. It is something more along the lines of avenging one's abusive drunk of a mother, or the man who spiked a friend's drink. And, while there have been extreme cases, most times it is not meant to kill.

While perhaps Owl assassins murder for a livelihood, that is for their gang. Any offense of theirs can be deflected by the Owls leaders, and as a powerful gang, it is often worth the payload. But using Decadence is a personal endeavor, and as such, infliction of pain does not necessarily equate a death.

That's not to say that I wouldn't like to kill him. But I'm told that pettiness is too little against murder.
— Katarina, Owl

Because of this, a Decadence fruit must be manually treated with the chosen poison - whether something to cause mild headaches or something deadly. There have even been recorded cases in which medications have been put in these fruits in attempts to make stubborn relatives treat themselves.

The Mechanics

The actual design of a Decadence fruit is simple enough. There are small cartridges - those breakeable with a bite and camouflaged to the flesh of a fruit - containing bits of poison. After the cartridges are loaded through syringe entry points signified by bruises on the fruit, the toxic substance slowly oozes out hrough the flexible wall of the cartridges into the rest of the fruit until, it is eaten.

Unproffessional

The Owls as a gang have made it very clear that they do not back the uses of Decadence fruits, While technically this is true, they do nothing to prevent the uses of such weapons. Owls theoretically have to 'steal' them from the storage space. But really, they do so with the full knowledge that the guard took a sick day for that very same purpose...

Nearly Indistinguishable

To the untrained eye, a Decadence fruit is identical to a real one. And most targets are those in possession of untrained eyes, entirely oblivious to the minuscule holes directly in the center of a bruise mark. They do not notice the almost plasticky substance - the cartridge - that they taste after taking a bite. It is perfect for its intended purpose.
