Ocean Currents

The three gyres form due to the circular rotation of the seas. This creates a region where things will float towards, if there is no force driving them otherwise. Each of these are home to great sea terrors. Any ship that becomes lost into a gyre may never return if they are noticed by one of three beasts. The nautillich is an undead drowned man that commands many evil sea creatures. The Esqiderra Maelstrom is home to a giant eel-like dragon who commands the seas, sky, and lightning to destory vessels and feed their crews to its young. But, most terrifying is the Nautillian Horror, a city sized ancient nautilus whose shell is home to ravaging evil sea creatures. Its appearance offshore brings a tsunami of creatures inland, kidnapping and devouring on the panicked population.

At 30 degrees, north and south, are the Sandworm Latitudes. Sand Dragons prefer to lair at these latitudes, so most of the deserts of the world lie at these latitudes. The high-pressure cells here push precipitation to move north and south of this latitude. These jetstreams (in orange) both move towards the west.

The equator has low-pressure systems north and south of the equator.  North of the equator they rotate counter-clockwise.  South of the equator, they rotate clockwise. The equatorial jetstream (in yellow) heads east.

At 60 degrees north and south are the artic jet streams (in blue). These travel east. The Kraken's gyre draws an unnaturally southern low down from the arctic producing snow and ice in this region uncommon to such a southern reach.
