Radon
Radon is a rare and dangerous gaseous element that seeps naturally from certain deep earth mineral deposits and ancient stone formations. Colorless and odorless, it often gathers unnoticed in sealed caverns, underground ruins, and poorly ventilated chambers where it can accumulate over long periods of time. Arcane scholars recognize radon for the faint but harmful energies it releases as it slowly decays, a process that can weaken living creatures and interfere with delicate magical workings if exposure continues for too long. Because of these effects, experienced explorers sometimes carry enchanted detectors or trained familiars capable of sensing its presence before entering deep subterranean spaces. Despite its hazards, some advanced alchemical researchers study radon for its unusual emissions, believing they may hold clues about the nature of unstable matter and the hidden energies within the earth. Outside of controlled laboratories, however, radon is regarded primarily as a natural danger lurking in the depths of forgotten places.
