Ooze

Dripping Mess

"We discovered the creature by following the trail of missing rats. We discovered its size by following the trail of missing dogs. We discovered our mistake when we found the missing cellar."
— From The Green Slime Incident
Oozes are simple creatures made of gelatinous, liquid, or semi liquid matter. Unlike most living beings, they usually lack bones, organs, or recognizable body structures. Their strange forms allow them to flow through small openings, reshape themselves, and move in ways that seem unnatural to other creatures.   Most oozes possess very limited intelligence. They are driven primarily by basic instincts such as feeding, growing, and surviving. Many do not communicate, form societies, or pursue goals beyond finding food. Because of this, they are often compared to living predators that act without emotion or reason.   Oozes are commonly found in dark and isolated places. Dungeons, caves, sewers, ruins, and underground passages provide ideal environments where they can hunt without being easily detected. Their unusual bodies often allow them to cling to walls, hide in shadows, or blend into their surroundings until prey comes close.   Many oozes feed by dissolving organic matter and other materials. Some produce acids or digestive substances that break down creatures, plants, wood, metal, and even stone. This ability makes them particularly dangerous to adventurers, as weapons, armor, and equipment may be damaged when fighting them.   Although most oozes are mindless, they can still pose a serious threat. Their unusual bodies often make them difficult to injure using conventional methods. Some can divide into smaller oozes when damaged, while others can squeeze through openings that would stop most creatures. Their lack of recognizable anatomy also means that many common tactics are less effective against them.   The origins of oozes remain a subject of debate among scholars. Some believe they formed naturally in ancient underground environments, while others argue that they are the result of magical experiments, planar influences, or forgotten disasters. Whatever their origins, oozes have spread throughout many regions of the world.   Common examples of oozes include gelatinous cubes, black puddings, gray oozes, and ochre jellies. While these creatures differ in size, appearance, and behavior, they all share a fluid body and a simple instinct driven existence.   Oozes represent one of the most alien forms of life found in the world. Lacking the thoughts, emotions, and motivations that guide most creatures, they exist as living masses that consume, grow, and continue their slow movement through the dark places of the world.
