Liquid Rope
No Tangles
“Why carry rope when you can pour it.”
Liquid Rope is a practical alchemical innovation designed for those who value preparation without the burden of carrying bulky equipment. Favored by climbers, explorers, and anyone who has ever found themselves wishing they had just a little more rope, the potion offers a simple solution in a compact form.
The substance inside the bottle appears as a thick, silvery liquid that refuses to settle. It clings to the glass in long, fibrous strands, stretching and recoiling as though it already remembers the shape it is meant to take. When disturbed, the strands slide over one another with a texture reminiscent of fine silk threads suspended in fluid.
When poured, the transformation is immediate. The liquid solidifies as it leaves the container, forming a continuous length of rope along the path it is directed. The result is a smooth, flexible cord with the look and feel of tightly woven silk.
The rope behaves exactly as one would expect from a well made length of cord. It can be tied, knotted, coiled, and secured without issue. However, it does not anchor itself or support weight unless it is properly placed or fastened. The potion provides the material, but not the structure.
Users must guide the formation carefully. The rope does not wrap, bind, or adhere on its own. It simply forms where it is poured, requiring deliberate placement to be useful. Attempts to use it for instant restraints or midair constructs typically fail without proper support.
Each use draws from the total substance within the bottle, allowing for flexible lengths to be created as needed. Once formed, the rope is entirely mundane and cannot be returned to its liquid state.
When the final length has been poured, the bottle loses its unusual properties, leaving behind nothing more than an empty container.
