Hafnium
Hafnium is a dense, silvery metallic element most often found within mineral deposits that also contain zirconium, from which it must be carefully separated through complex refinement. The metal is highly resistant to heat, corrosion, and chemical attack, making it exceptionally durable under extreme conditions. Because hafnium is both strong and stable at very high temperatures, it is valued by master smiths and artificers who craft materials intended to endure intense heat or prolonged stress. Deposits of hafnium are uncommon and difficult to refine, which makes the metal relatively rare despite its presence within larger zircon bearing ores.
In arcane traditions hafnium is often regarded as a metal of containment and control. Its remarkable resistance to heat and energy has led artificers to use it in the construction of magical containment chambers, enchanted reactors, and laboratory vessels designed to hold volatile substances or powerful spells. Some scholars also incorporate hafnium alloys into the cores of arcane devices where stable regulation of magical energy is required. Though rarely used in everyday tools due to its scarcity and the difficulty of refining it, hafnium has earned a respected reputation among artificers as a metal capable of enduring extreme magical and elemental forces.
