Caldur's Core Traits

Warm • Loyal • Protective • Playful • Quick-witted • Relaxed

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Caldur has a strong build with athletic arms and broad shoulders; the physique of a knight who moves with both power and surprising grace.

Caldur's Voice

A friendly, warm tenor with a natural lilt influenced by Asrailian cadence.
Caldur's voice carries an easy humor during casual moments, but when he speaks as a knight — protective, resolute — there is a deep strength that commands respect without ever needing to shout.

Body Features

Caldur's Skin

His sun-glow look in his skin is the unmistakable mark of someone raised under Asrail’s open skies.

Caldur's Hair

When unbraided, his hair falls into loose, wavy strands that frame his face in a strikingly soft way. He occasionally braids ribbons or gold cuffs into his hair. This is a Serenval family tradition that honors heritage and protection.

Facial Features

A smile that could make a goddess blush... bright, boyish, and infuriatingly charming.
High cheekbones, a straight nose, a strong jaw softened by kindness, and just the barest hint of dimples when he laughs.
His expressions are open and sincere; Caldur wears his heart plainly on his face, in a way that makes people trust him instantly.

Personal history

Early Life:
Caldur’s life began in unexpected quiet. As a baby, he rarely cried — only blinked curiously at the world, absorbing everything with wide, thoughtful eyes. But by the time he could walk, his personality blossomed like wildfire.

He toddled fast, moved fast, and seemed to think fast — darting in and out of his parents’ view with the quick-footed unpredictability of a rabbit.

From those early days came the nickname “Tolan,” a name that would follow him lovingly into adulthood.

Family Background:
Caldur was born to two free-minded, wander-prone parents who were less isolated than most Asrailians. Rather than keeping strictly within the veil-protected village, the Serenvals lived on the outskirts, where Asrail touched the outside world.

This gave Caldur and his younger sister a childhood of open skies, new faces, and stories from distant lands. His sister, a natural dancer, often spun through markets and camps, collecting applause from travelers like coins.

The Serenval family was known not for secrecy, but for spirit — they were curious, brave, and quietly wise.

Childhood Influences:
Because his parents straddled the border of Asrail and the broader mainland, Caldur had access to the world in ways other Asrailian children didn’t. He traveled more, met people from many lands, listened to accents, rhythms, and manners, and learned to read intentions long before he learned to write.

Where other children learned secrecy, Caldur learned connection. Where others learned caution, he learned courage.

The world never frightened him — it fascinated him

Adulthood Before Royal Service:
Caldur entered royal service at a young age, spending most of his early adulthood training under the Tydarian Order and growing into a respected knight.

He visited his family whenever he could, arriving with stories, laughter, and new scars that his mother pretended not to notice.

How He Entered Royal Service:
At fifteen or sixteen, Caldur felt the steady pull of a calling larger than Asrail. He loved his home deeply but sensed the world had intentions for him — and his parents, wise in the ways of letting children grow, encouraged him to follow that instinct.

Wandering north toward Tydaria, he joined a sparring demonstration in a crowded square. His fluidity, footwork, and confidence lit the air like wildfire. General Garnet Thaleon noticed immediately. By the end of the day, Caldur was invited to apprentice with the Tydarian Knights.

By the end of the month, he was one of the order’s most promising recruits.

Education

Much of Caldur’s early education came from his mother, a woman deeply rooted in Asrailian tradition but open to all the world had to offer.

She taught him:
• movement-based intuition — the foundation of his footwork
• how to sense people’s emotions by watching their shoulders, eyes, and hands
• how to groom and ride horses
• how to listen before speaking
• how to stand tall even when uncertain

As he grew, wandering instructors and caravans taught him the basics of staff and knife, while his father drilled him in balance, endurance, and adaptability — skills that later made him shine during knight training.

Employment

Knight of Tydaria; Crownblade to Tydian King Solaren.

Role During Sol’s Early Reign:
Caldur quickly became one of Sol’s most trusted allies, long before Tarana’s arrival.

Where Garnet was the disciplined mentor and shield, Caldur was the steady warmth — a companion Sol could laugh with, confide in, and rely on during moments when the weight of kingship pressed hardest.

Caldur accompanied Sol on early missions, helped stabilize the newly restructured Knighthood, and served as Sol’s emotional anchor when the young king doubted himself.

Failures & Embarrassments

Caldur deeply regrets the awkward and strained way he left Kira during their youth — a wound that lingered until fate brought them back together.
He also carries guilt over not being able to brace Sol during his emotional collapse after Tarana’s disappearance, even though he knows it was not his failure.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Caldur strives to protect Tydaria with everything he has, honoring his oath as a knight. He also seeks to be the best support possible to his best friend — Sol — both on and off the battlefield.

Likes & Dislikes

Likes

  • Warm, lively gatherings — music, laughter, shared meals, anything that feels like home.
  • Braiding his own hair — or having Kira braid it when she’s feeling bold.
  • Quiet afternoons training with Sol; their banter is half the reason he shows up early.
  • Asrailian street foods, especially honey-fried flatbread and spiced nut rolls from traveling vendors.
  • The feeling of freshly loosened braids — the freedom and weightlessness after a long day.
  • Night walks in the training yard or along forest edges, listening to the world breathe.
  • Reading people — he’s frighteningly good at sensing emotions and hidden tensions.
  • Playfully teaching Tarana new Asraili phrases (usually the safe ones… mostly).
  • Kira’s laugh — his favorite sound, though he’d never admit it openly.
  • Sparring with Garnet — even when Garnet tosses him like a sack of grain.
  • Carrying Tamra on his shoulders; she calls him “Cal-Cal,” and it melts him every single time.
  • Hot teas with floral notes that remind him of Asrail’s fields.
  • Polishing his armor — relaxing, almost meditative.
  • Moments of stillness — those rare times when the world doesn’t need him.

Dislikes

  • Anyone who threatens Sol, Tarana, Tamra, or Kira — his warmth turns to steel instantly.
  • Being lied to, especially by people he trusts; honesty is sacred to him.
  • Confined spaces — he grew up loving open air and wide paths.
  • The feeling of helplessness, something he knew too well during Sol’s lowest point.
  • Knights who treat their rank with arrogance — humility is a Serenval virtue.
  • Overly spicy foods — he can eat them, but he regrets it every time.
  • Court politics — he can navigate them… and hates every second of it.
  • People assuming he’s simple because he smiles often — he is far sharper than he appears.
  • Cold, overly formal greetings; he prefers warmth and sincerity.
  • Anyone mocking Sol’s hardest moments — Caldur shuts that down immediately.
  • Being caught off guard emotionally, especially by Kira (which happens regularly).
  • Leaving Asrail without visiting his parents — a guilt that never fully leaves him.
  • Disrespect shown to Vashara: Don't mess with his horse.

Virtues & Personality perks

• Incredible footwork and fluidity in combat — his movement often compared to a dancer’s ease
• Socially magnetic; people gravitate to him without realizing it
• Emotionally attuned, especially to Sol and Tarana — he notices mood shifts before they’re spoken
• A natural peacekeeper; deescalates tension with humor or calm grounding
• Observant and quietly intelligent — sharper than he appears at first glance
• Writes clean, concise battlefield reports that Garnet praises often
• Exceptionally trustworthy — a man others confide in instinctively
• Elite swordsmanship; his duel rhythm is almost musical

Vices & Personality flaws

• Occasionally distractible when bored — mind drifts, feet wander
• Overprotective of the people he loves, sometimes to a fault
• Avoids emotional confrontation until cornered (especially regarding Kira)
• Can overextend himself by trying to be everyone’s support pillar

Social

Contacts & Relations

Kira Danowyn — His Heart, His Stelin
Caldur met Kira at fifteen when she first slipped beyond Asrail’s veil to glimpse the world outside. He was instantly struck by her short, curled hair, bold spirit, and the quiet spark of womanhood just beginning to shine through her. They met in secret throughout half a year, trading playful flirtations and growing emotions, until one night they shared their first kiss — a moment that confirmed what both already knew.

But Caldur felt the pull of a wider destiny and made the sudden decision to leave Asrail. The choice came too fast for either of them to process fully, and they agreed — with aching restraint — to leave whatever was blossoming between them unresolved.

Years passed. Amid battles, knight missions, and long marches north and south, Caldur often remembered the girl he called stelin — “my star” — and the thought of her would soften him even on the darkest days.
He never imagined she would step back into his life during the second Royal Circuit, rekindle the spark he’d never forgotten, become his deepest love, and eventually his wife.

Tydian King Sol Elantine — Brother in All but Blood.
Sol is Caldur’s closest friend, the person he stands beside in every battle and every joy. Their bond is rooted in trust, loyalty, and an ease formed in early knighthood. Caldur teases Sol relentlessly, but would throw himself in front of any danger without hesitation. He sees both the king and the man — and cherishes both.

Tarana LeSable — Gentle Respect, Shared Roots, and Quiet Devotion.
Caldur holds deep admiration for Tarana’s strength and heart. Her calm presence draws out his softer instincts, and he is fiercely protective of her without ever overstepping.
Because they are both Asrailian, they share an effortless cultural rhythm — unspoken gestures, familiar habits, and a natural understanding that makes their bond particularly warm.
He sees why Sol loves her — and trusts her as both queen and friend.

General Garnet Thaleon — Mentor and Second Father.
Garnet recognized Caldur’s potential from the start and shaped him into a disciplined, confident knight. Their relationship is built on mutual respect and genuine care; Caldur strives to make Garnet proud, and Garnet sees him as one of his greatest successes.

Deianeira Thaleon — Gentle Guidance and Warm Affection.
Deianeira treats Caldur like extended family, offering soft-spoken wisdom and kindness whenever he needs grounding. Her presence reminds him of home — steady, warm, and accepting.

Lord Liniver — Respect and Steady Trust.
Though Liniver’s intellect initially intimidated Caldur, he soon came to trust the wizard deeply. Liniver sees more in Caldur than the knight realizes and often offers insight or calm advice during tense moments.

Princess Tamra Elantine — His Little Sunshine.
Caldur is wonderfully soft with Tamra. He protects her with brotherly affection and lets her braid his hair, cling to his armor, or fall asleep on his shoulder during travels. She calls him “Cal-Cal,” and he melts every time.

Prince Calyon Elantine — His Godson.
Caldur loves Calyon fiercely and takes the role of godfather with deep pride. He teaches him gentle Asrailian traditions, tells him stories from his travels, and vows to protect him with his life.

Elara Winslow — Respectful Fondness.
Elara is a comforting constant in Caldur’s life. Her warmth reminds him of his mother, and he treats her with gentle respect. She fusses over him like one of her own — and he lets her.

Mab Serenval — His Father.
Caldur holds great respect for Mab, who encouraged him to explore beyond Asrail and trust his instincts. Their bond is steady, open, and marked by mutual admiration.

Ilyra Serenval — His Mother.
Ilyra shaped much of Caldur’s emotional intelligence and intuition. He carries her teachings into every interaction as a knight. Their connection is quietly profound.

Evelisse Serenval — Beloved Younger Sister.
Caldur adores Radella. Her joyful dancing reminds him of home, and he treasures their lively, teasing sibling dynamic. He often brings her gifts or foreign trinkets during his visits.

Vashara — Loyal Companion.
Vashara is more than a mount — she is a lifelong companion who chose Caldur herself. She mirrors his love of speed, responds to his emotions, and carries him with fierce loyalty.

Caldur Trivia
  • He carves small wooden animals during long rides or quiet evenings. Most of these end up secretly gifted to Tamra or left on Sol’s desk.
  • Runs almost entirely on instinct. If he hesitates for even a breath, everyone around him knows something is wrong.
  • Has a habit of talking to Vashara as if she’s a stubborn best friend. She responds with snorts that sound like opinions.
  • Can braid hair in near total darkness. Sol finds this deeply unfair.
  • Once beat Garnet in a footrace. Only once. Garnet refuses to acknowledge it happened.
  • Sings softly under his breath when nervous, usually old Asrailian lullabies his mother used to hum.
  • Is incapable of lying to Elara. She sees through him instantly, so he doesn’t bother trying.
  • Always gives Tarana the Asraili greeting tap (two fingertips to heart), even when bowing formally as a knight. It’s second nature.
  • Has a notoriously low tolerance for Asrailian celebration wines. One cup, and he becomes affectionate enough to embarrass Sol.
  • Children adore him. Caldur can walk into any village and immediately attract a small parade of kids wanting piggyback rides or sword lessons (with sticks).
  • He collects pressed wildflowers from places he’s traveled — a habit he started as a child and never gave up.
  • Afraid of snakes. This is a secret known only to Kira, who teases him mercilessly.
  • Is a disaster in the kitchens. Sol once banned him from helping Tarana cook after Caldur accidentally set flour on fire.
  • Keeps every letter he receives. Especially ones from his parents and Evie. He stores them neatly in his footlocker.
  • The knights joke that he can “track emotions like footprints.” Caldur always knows when someone is hiding worry, sadness, or frustration.
  • When he’s deep in thought, he tends to tap two fingers against his thigh — a habit inherited from his mother.
  • He once shielded Sol from a falling tree branch during a storm without thinking, earning a scar and three days of Sol insisting he should rest.
  • Has a soft spot for baby animals. Kittens completely undo him.
  • Wrote a terrible love poem for Kira when he was sixteen. She kept it.
