Magic

Magic in the world is the result of the leaking of ley energy out of the leylines. Magic is in some way associated with the Cassia, the Mistress of Magic, also known as the Princess. Her exact relationship to magic is not well understood, not even by her most powerful clerics or the most knowledgeable mages.

Manifestation

Magic manifests everywhere in the world. Even areas far from any leylines have magic waiting to be tapped by knowledgeable individuals, or those who have some kind of unfathomable link to magic. Of course some gain magic from their deities, or make a deal with an otherworldly power, for the privilege of tapping into the magic. In the modern age the essence of magic, ley energy, can be stored in crystal shards or other magic devices to be used even by those with little or no understanding of magic.

Magic is most powerful near leylines and spells cast there can be either purposefully more powerful or wildly out of control.
