House Rules
Initiative Order:Familiars, Steel Defenders, Homunculi, etc. will have their turn either directly before or directly after their respective controlling Player. If your controlled creature has a special initiative bonus, meant to make it consistently roll high initiative, you may choose to invoke it and do separate initiative, but this exception must be invoked for all initiative rolls.
Crafting:For crafting Toresta uses the Ryoko's Harvesting and Crafting Lite rules. In this system Magical Essence harvested from monsters based on their CR rating is used to enchant items and make them magic items. In Toreset Leyline Essence (also called Ley Energy) is farmed from the Leylines. This ley energy, typically stored in a Ley Energy Shard may be used in lieu of frail essence to enchant common or uncommon magic items. When crafting complex magic items, irregardless of their rarity, if the item can cast any spells a separate crafting enchantment is required for each spell. (EXAMPLE: The instrument of the Bards is an uncommon magic item that allows the user to cast no less than SEVEN spells for free, a very powerful magic item. To construct such a device the proper instrument must be constructed or purchased. Then to enchant it the crafter must know every spell. Each enchantment must be cast separately using frail essence with an arcana roll. Failure of any of these rolls will result in failure to successfully complete the device. This justifies the large 28,500 gp of such an instrument.
Purchasing Magic Items:Prices for magic items in Toresta are set based upon the document Sane Magical Items. If an item is not listed in this document, but has a specific listed price in another official source the cost of the item is that price. Otherwise item costs will revert to the DM.
Ley energy shards and Magic Items: The Magic the Gathering, Plane Shift: Kaladesh supplement, released by WOTC in 2017 gives rules for a world based on MTG where magic it primarily used through Aether powered magical devices. It proposes making any magic item which uses charges an aether-powered device. Charges do not repower automatically at dawn, but are powered by aether and must be refilled.
In Toresta these magic items are powered by ley energy shards.| Rarity | Shard Type | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| common | A | 8 gp |
| Uncommon | B | 50 gp |
| Rare | C | 250 gp |
| Very Rare | D | 500 gp |
So for example, if you have an Eldritch Staff, which is a very rare item which has 10 charges it does not recharge automatically each dawn. Instead it retains charges until they are expended. When all charges are expended you must remove the expended D type ley energy shard and replace it with a fully charged D type shard. This has two effects. Provided you have a spare shard you can immediately replace the shard and keep using the item. Replacing an energy shard takes 1 minute for a staff or a wondrous item. Replacing the energy shard on a wand requires 1 Action (wands are designed for rapid shard replacement). Second if you don't have a spare energy shard the device will become useless until you can replace the shard.
Expended energy shards can be sold back for 1% of its fully charged cost. It can also be recharged using a ley energy accumulator, a large device built for the purpose. Such a device must be located on a leyline to function.
